Evangelical Christian leader Russell Moore revealed this week that many evangelical pastors have become alarmed that their Trump-loving congregants have become so militant that they are even rejecting the teachings of Jesus Christ.

In an interview with NPR, Moore said that multiple pastors had told him disturbing stories about their congregants being upset when they read from the famous "Sermon on the Mount" in which Christ espoused the principles of forgiveness and mercy as central to Christian doctrine.

"Multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching — 'turn the other cheek' — [and] to have someone come up after to say, 'Where did you get those liberal talking points?'" Moore revealed. "And what was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, 'I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ,' the response would not be, 'I apologize.' The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak.'"

So now the MAGA crowd thinks Jesus is to liberal? I wish this thread were in the Badlands so I could speak more freely? This is a very disturbing story.

Today's "christians" especially those of the Evangelical, Catholic, or Southern Baptist sects, are about as far from what Jesus (had he been a real being) wanted folks to be as it's possible to be.

They led their flock to the edge of a cliff, some of them fell over. Oh my! It must be Trump's fault. They've been crucifying Jesus every Sunday for years. It's as if dying was the only important thing Jesus ever did.

Translation:
“I really miss those traditional hardcore Bible thumping ‘Conservatives’….the ones who didn’t conserve, preserve or protect anything, the ones with no ball-sack, the one’s that would polish the AR-15’s they’d never have the nuts to use, the foolish suckers we could easily bully, easily steer their way of thinking by throwing a Bible verse in their face…we could get those passive dumbass pussies to accept anything with a simple guilt trip. The nutless bastards finally grew a pair of balls and now they won’t ignore us disgusting globalist degenerates as we run amok, trashing and transforming their nation into the no borders, no boundaries anything goes socialist foreign shithole we seek.”
Ya know, in this country, you have every right to be Rambo. Just don't act like Mr. Rodgers! If you do not follow the teachings of Jesus, you are not a Christian. Jesus never owned a Glock!

I grew up deep in a kind of backwoods Christianity that barely exists any more. They absolutely did believe in the sermon on the mount. I still do. It's the kind soul of christiandom. Without that they have no right to call themselves Christians.

Perhaps Evangelical ministers should take a look at the culture of the day. Slapping someone marked them as the slappers inferior (Right hand slap to the left cheek). No one slapped an equal or a superior on the left cheek. Turning the other cheek was saying, "I see us as equals." If this annoyed the slapper so much he struck again, he would be striking the right cheek, confirming the two were equals.

I recommend following this up with the reminder Jesus never backed down, never backed away. Not even on the cross.

you see it on here with the so called or self proclaimed christian...is proof there is no greater hate than christian love

seemingly with little realization of what the bible says....
I expect they are only so- called or self- proclaimed when it suits you to see them that way . A simpler explanation might be that many thinking and intelligent people have realised that the so called teachings of the Essene monk lack relevance for today and only work well if you want to be a loser-- as the previous poster(9) nicely reminds us . Except in heaven which does not exist when you look for an address. .

Au contraire. When correctly understood and practiced, it is an amazing way of living. The relevance will continue through the ages.

There is lots of scripture to prove that Jesus was quite cynical, quite cruel at times when he needed to be… For some reason you fragile beggars always seem to look past all those teachings.

Religion is a social construct so I identify as a worshipper of Odin, the Norse god of war and death.

I will die in battle and will be taken to his hall in Valhalla.

Jesus’ ideology, like so many other liberal and progressive ideologies , works beautifully in a vacuum. Unfortunately, once you add human nature and fallibility and weakness to the equation, they’re a recipe for disaster.

You meant vacuum, not vaccine, right?

Give me an example of "cruel Jesus". And don't say when he turned over the tax tables!
