Okay, okay, I know this has been talked about many times, the country is split in two over it, but again, lets look at some facts. Oh what am I talking about? Legalization of marijuana that is. People are actually trying to convince me that legalizing marijuana will not get us out of debt our country owes. Hmmmm, how many billions of tax dollars each year do we get from cigarettes and alcohol alone? Again billions, not millions.
No I propose we tax the hell out of marijuana, hell even close what we pay in cigarettes, plus half. Within the first year, the government would have made tens if not hundred billion dollars. Why so good in the first year? Same reason NSYNC and Backstreet boys were so popular, hype. Look how many rappers, actors, media stars all glorify weed, and get others to feel the same. Think of all the potheads, social smokers, and every once in awhile smokers. All of them at once realizing marijuana is now legal and available for purchase, everyone would want to buy it, and smoke it in public just cause thats what they have been waiting for this whole time. Hype will always attract people.
So other than taxing it how could we benefit off of it? Check this out, 80% of the people in prison right now, thats right the guys you PAY to be in there, are in there for marijuana related crimes. Wow your paying roughly for 1.8 million (nytimes estimated roughly 2.3 million inmates nation wide) inmates cause they had a plant, made by nature, in their possession. Now figure this in, on average, again I say on average it costs roughly $25,000 to house an inmate for a year. So 1.8 million multiplied by $25,000, well gee that would equal $45 billion dollars, and thats just the potheads. Dont you think it would be cheaper just to let that pothead next door smoke his herb? Remember this as well, YOUR PAYING FOR IT!! Oh wait one last thing, think of all the salaries paid to guards watching all these prisons, thats another couple hundred million dollars right there.
Also ways to make money is taxing the companies that use hemp for oil for cars, to make lumber, medicine, etc., all that can be taxed as well. Also think of this, imagine how many tourists go to Amsterdam to smoke marijuana without any problems, once America opens shop, more tourism to our country, which brings more money.
Those are just a few ways of making money off of marijuana. I think it should be legal, dont you?
Well thats my opinion anyway.
