Paramount Agrees to pay Trump $16 million in CBS 60 Minutes lawsuit

What did they edit out to make her look "better", exactly?

be specific.

Did she scream, "I hope the Haitians Eat your DOG!!!"

No lines were crossed, Paramount just wants their big 9 billion dollar deal with Skydance to go through without FCC interference.

Government by hack.

This is 100 times worse than Lois Lerner telling the teabaggers to file for the correct tax exemption.

First one I found.

Uncut ‘60 Minutes’ Kamala Harris interview reveals ‘word salad’ responses were heavily edited by CBS — snipped Israel answer to just 20 words

So, this is a huge one for freedom of speech and for Trump's aims of becoming a dictator by using his presidential powers for his own gains, rather than for the country.

1) Trump sued Paramount for essentially airing an interview with his opponent.

The consequences of such a thing are totally ridiculous. There's so much stuff said about presidential candidates, lies, mistruths, all kinds of things, and it has been upheld as legal, constitutional etc. You're allowed to show interviews of political candidates.

2) So why did Paramount lose? Did they lose and pay Trump's library (Trump has a presidential library, hilarious seeing how Trump probably doesn't do books, or reading, much) $16 million? Nope, they didn't lose. The case didn't go to court for one reason. Paramount want a merger with Skydance media. And Trump, like China is does, has essentially said he can stop the merger going through if he doesn't like what happens.

Trump, using presidential powers, for his own ego, attacking political opponents and doing everything a dictatorship does.
Freedom of speech? How's it a free speech issue? You think that 60 Mins is free to edit someone's speech to make them say something they didn't, to sound better? Could they to make people sound worse? Why do you think that's a good idea and why do you think the first amendment right to free speech allows 60 mins to do that?

True.

But when news is considered a loss-leader in a corporate empire, it's open to that kind of attack.

As long as the FCC can regulate Paramount and its business dealings, they are open to this kind of attack.

The movie Network predicted this kind of thing 50 years ago.

Except that Howard Beale seems a little sedate now compared to Carlson and Maddow.

Not when compared o the Fox Noise show.

Fake News Media has to pay the man. The Orange Man.

$787 million vs $16 million.

Paramount has agreed to pay Trump $16 million to settle the lawsuit Trump filed against them over an edited interview on 60 Minutes during last year's election cycle. The interview in question involved Kamala Harris, and the lawsuit claimed that it was maliciously and deceptively edited to make her appear smarter and more competent in her Oct 7, 2024 interview.

This would have been an easy win for Paramount. It would have taken a jury less than five minutes to rule in their favor.

However, Paramount is in the middle of a sale which requires federal approval, so their reasons for settling with Il Duce, who has veto power over the sale, are obvious.

All Paramount would have needed to do is show how often Fox News edits their interviews with Trump to excise his long-winded gibberings.

For example, the very same week Kamala Harris had her interview with 60 minutes, Trump had a "surprise visit" to a barbershop.

When one person asked Trump if there would come a day when federal taxes could be eliminated, Trump went on a SEVEN MINUTE wandering, nonsensical journey into bizarro world.

To make Trump look smart and normal, Fox News deleted all of that and only aired his first sentence, "There is a way."

The Hypocrite-in-Chief racks up another despicable victory.

Why? We were not harmed in any way.
and it cost us nothing. Trump got elected easily and convincingly anyway. I am happy for the money to go for whatever legal fees were involved and to help get more MAGA Republicans elected in the midterms.

Meanwhile a public settlement like that is pretty much an admission by that media source that they manipulated the interview in a deliberate way that constituted election interference. That should not go unpunished ever.
See post 33.

Trump is a hypocrite.

I'm sure you will all learn to live with that, as always.

Sounds kind of like the Biden mental health coverup.

As for the Biden "coverup" hoax, you should be grateful.

If Biden had resigned, Harris would have been made president. The first female president.

An incumbent has the advantage in an election, and since there was only a two million vote difference in the election, Harris probably would have won.

And Trump would be fighting for his freedom in court right now for his attempted coup.

That's the reason he ran.
