Furthermore, it is not difficult to imagine the U.S. and Panama negotiating a peaceful reorganization of the Canal's management and finances that gives the U.S. more control at the same time as it invests money in resolving the long-term water problem - a problem that Panama lacks the resources to solve. (Alternatively, it is not difficult to imagine a proposal from China to finance and build the needed infrastructure improvements in exchange for "certain considerations" from Panama).

The Bottom Line is that The Donald sees this as an important measure to stabilize traffic through the Canal, which benefits not only the U.S. but almost everyone else at the same time.
