Cop City, Atlanta. A militarized police state training camp.

Our small town had one cop who worked during the day. No cop at night.

Our "police station" was a small room in the back of the town library.

Real Mayberry stuff.

Then the city council issued a $110 million bond to ostensibly build a new high school because the old high school was a condemned building.

The bond got approved and our property taxes skyrocketed.

When all was said and done, we had a new high school the size of a big city shopping mall which looks like a penitentary on the outside.

The explanation for all that extra space is that our town would grow into it.

We also got a huge upgrade to the town library. It's real nice, but almost no one goes to libraries any more. It is basically a daytime homeless shelter now.

We also got a colossal two-story police station with a dozen tricked-out SUVs and dozens of black-clad cops wearing 30 pounds of tactical gear.

As you can imagine, these guys are constantly on the lookout for a reason to justify their existence.

We now live in a small-town version of a police state.

Oh yeah. That old condemnded high school? It is now the middle school, with no money from that bond spent to fix it up.
