Except for the ITT tech loans for worthless education the forgiveness was contractual but they were not performing their part of the contract. Something akin to not fulfilling the GI bill for veterans... except in this case it is schoolteachers and non-profit medical staff. They were promised forgiveness but then the government defaulted on the forgiveness.

No the logic is you signed up for the debt, just like a car loan or a home loan or a loan for hookers and blow and therefore should have to pay back said loan. It wasnt like these people were forced to take out the loans. Why should we forgive student debt and not home debt? I didnt go to college because I didnt have the money and didnt want to take out a huge loan, but Im now on the hook to pay for someone else's education. That sounds fair and equitable dont it?

It's not about me it's about punishing all the people who werent irresponsible with their money and rewarding those who were, because that's what we are doing. We are stealing money from the group of people who decided that they would either delay or forego college all together because that was the fiscally responsible thing to do (and people who chose degrees that paid enough to pay off their loans) and giving it to people who didnt do those things. One group doesnt want anything. The other group made some bad decisions and now wants the first group to bail them out. Tell me again who this is "all about" and who's being selfish....

How are you being punished? Your taxes arent going up because of this. "You dont want anything". Thats your problem. You want ZERO return on your tax dollars. Then you wouldnt have anything to complain about. At the same time, you dont want anyone to benefit either. I guess you just want your tax dollars to go into some dark hole where nobody gets any return.

The cost of college in the last 30 years has far outpaced any gains in salary. So nobody is supposed to further their education? This is righting a wrong and I applaud it.

Think of it like this......just imagine the policy was in place to pay for college education instead of it being retroactive. Maybe that will help you mentally cope with it.
