Four years ago, Shenouda was an infant found at the door of a Coptic church. Today, renamed Yusuf, the boy is found in a state-run orphanage. In between lies the care of a priest, the devastation of a Christian family, and a sectarian bureaucracy undergoing partial reform.

They took him into their home, obtained a birth certificate as if he was their own, and raised him with love and devotion. They gave him a Christian-signifying first name, honoring the prior Coptic Orthodox pope, and per Egyptian naming custom the four-generation quadrilateral was completed with the names of the doting father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

All was idyllic, until a jealous niece realized the impact on her inheritance.

Egypt’s Islamic-based law, seeking to preserve lineage, prohibits taking another’s child as one’s own. The niece reported the couple to the police, who investigated. The prosecution determined there was no blood relation, but also no ill will.

The father signed a paper stating he found the child “on the street,” likely to shield the priest’s involvement. But though the case was dropped last February, the boy was taken to an orphanage. With no papers to prove his ancestry, he was assumed to be a Muslim—and thus forbidden to live with a Christian family—and given the religiously neutral name Yusuf, the Arabic equivalent of Joseph.

The desperate parents protested: What Muslim would leave their unwanted child at a church? Denied, they were even forbidden from visiting him in the orphanage. Their applications for employment at the facility were turned down.

The sad thing is that the niece turned on them simply because she would not have received the inheritance that she hoped for. Now the family has los the child that was their son.

That is messed up and I ain’t for stoning a woman but that niece deserves one.

Also the adopted parents are correct the child is most likely Christian seeing the child was left at a Church, so how Egypt can say the Child could be Muslim is insane.
I wonder if things would have gone differently had the "foster dad" just said that he got the baby from the priest.

Guess what----you have uncovered the "secret" to
HOW ISLAM GREW. It is and has been since the
inception of the vile stench of SHARIAH----
"embrace islam" ---and GET IT ALL. In the case of
a family----if ONE MEMBER "embraces" the
religion of the rapist of Mecca---THAT ONE
MEMBER becomes the legal INHERITOR of the
FAMILY FORTUNE. I have often wondered how
ANY christians, jews or hindus or zoroastrians
managed to survive

thumb DOWN on Shariah law, Suradie?

She needs something. That is for sure.
I am FASCINATED----do any of you KNOW anything
about the laws imposed on non-muslim orphans
in Shariah law? Fear not to answer, Disir, Peace,
Surada? My very own mother-in-law was a victim
thereof

OH!!!!! Surada LIKES the post that Peace put up---
SHE IS REPUDIATING SHARIAH LAW. Sorry Peace,
in Shariah law an orphan (by virtue of loss of dhimmi
father) is free for islamic confiscation under the rules
of DHIMMIA

The baby was left at a Coptic church. The niece lied out of avarice.
right---likely by a coptic mother---father not named. That makes the baby----BY THE ISLAMIC LAW that you so love......an orphaned dhimmi ---FREE FOR
ISLAMIC CONFISCATION........the Egyptian court
ruled in accordance with the filth of Shariah. The
priest VIOLATED the law that you so adore. The
"lie" of the niece protected the priest from
prosecution. C'mon Surada----shariah is easy

sophist supporter of the filth of shariah law. "NO
DHIMMIES IN EGYPT ----sorta true----but anyone
interested in the stench of shariah in Egypt should
talk to a COPT OR A JEW who fled the filth. INTERESTINGLY, I have known well---PERSONS NAMED SHENOUDA right here in the USA

I wonder if things would have gone differently had the "foster dad" just said that he got the baby from the priest.
not so fast, Peace----the priest would have been IN VIOLATION of "holey moley" koranic (shariah) law.
A fatherless child is a FREEBIE for muslims
