Oral Arguments in "Opt-out" Case

This is Sotomayor questioning an advocate of parents' right have their child "opt-out" of a lesson covering a book about a same-sex wedding:

This is Alito questioning I believe the same advocate about the same book:

Like to see some mature opinions about this. I have mixed feelings. I get that public school cannot be tailored to each and every child and their parents. Fifty years ago, it would not have been such an issue. But now, given some of the things that are being taught, I have to be suspecious of school boards being so adament that the parents have no say.

What say you?

Let the parents decide.

Much of the actions today are simply a backlash to the decades of hate which still exists with many today.

That doesn't respond to my statement.

People in this country have freedom of Religion whether you like it or not.

Pride isn't about teaching tolerance, it's about teaching celebration.

I don’t want my child taught about evolution
I don’t want my child taught about slavery
That teacher is gay, I don’t want him around my child

Schools should not have to pander to a parents backward view of the world
I am saying this in the best of ways. Stop destroying the economy. For the way for people to revert to what you do not like, is just that. Your agendas conflict with each other. Prog women will destroy us if allowed to.

Public schools should not counter the legal viewpoints of parents on issues of morality.

It's not pandering, it's about not overstepping your bounds.
If it is legal, then schools can cover it

Just because a parent has limited views of morality, a school should not have to pander to it.

Gays get married
Parents need to accept it

There is no such thing as a "limited view of morality" there are morality views your side doesn't like, and would like to eliminate using the government.

No, they need to tolerate it, they don't have to accept it.

Forced acceptance is wrong.

We have gays in our society
A child’s friends may have gay family, a teacher may be gay, a child in class may have gay parents……god forbid, a child in their class may be gay.

That is not sexualization…..that is life
excuse me but teaching about marriage is NOT a core requirement of schools. and whether Doug marries Fran or Steve is not something that should be taught.

Moral views include…

Interracial marriage is wrong
Atheists are wrong
Divorce is wrong

Doesn’t mean a school needs to pander to your view of morality

Schools in this case are taking the opposite view of the parents in question.

Why should they only pander to the left's views on Morality?

Because school teachers have NO sense of morality, they need to be watched, and corrected when they overstep.

Who's morality should they pander to? The schools?

These things are going to come up in schools.

Teacher: Johnny, what's wrong? Why are you crying?

Johnny: My parents told me it was sinful to be left handed but I just can't seem to be able to write right handed.

Interesting.

It was and is legal to make a movie depicting the Ku Klux Klan as the true heroes of the reconstruction era.

Would you object to a modern remake, geared to 5th and 6th graders, screened in middle school history class?
