One of the reasons that McCain's Rovian tactics are not working this time is because so many more people have internet access compared to 2000. It is much harder to lie in the age of youtube and google.

Also the rise of left wing commentators like Colbert/Stewart and MSNBC has helped counter FoxNews and Rupert Murdoch.

Yeah, like the left wing didn't have the edge before. CBS, ABC, CNN. In 2000 all the right wing really had was the radio.
