Saw this last night. Its very funny and very well made. But sick as fuck.

Its set in the film industry in the 60s and gives an alternate take on the Manson story.
Loads of in jokes about the industry and lots of references to forgotten films and TV shows.

A knowledge of Lancer would help. You will remember it was a second rate High Chapperal with a lead character called Johnny Madrid. (The shows are on youtube at the moment)

Tarantino has a good eye for a joke and encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture. The lead characters bring real star quality to the show. Margot Robbie in boots is a poster we should all have on our walls.

But here is the problem I have have with this film. I can accept that murder has been a dramatic staple of story telling for ever. But not as a subject for comedy. The connections of those murdered with Sharon Tate are likely still with us.

They shouldnt have their grief trampled on like this. As the film went on I felt more like a voyeur than a viewer.

I did enjoy it up to a point but I felt a bit dirty afterwards.

It was well made

But the alternate history reminded me of the Hateful 8 and Inglorious Bastards
A “what if” tale

Not sure why Tarrantino is the only one allowed to make memorable movies anymore.

I quite enjoyed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It was well acted, funny and Margot Robbie stirs the soul of even a geezer like me.

I stopped watching his films after django. I thought he was getting up his own arse. Didnt know he had pulled the trick before.

An entertaining bit of fluff that pokes fun at Hollywood and offers an historical alternative to the horror of the Manson gang. Not bad.

Another Tarantino classic.
Tarantino has one priority making a movie.... be entertaining.
No wokeness, no messaging, no PC politics, no thoughts about anything other than make the movie entertain.

Untrue. He was a huge instigator making the media rounds with his anti police propaganda during the last round of riots that ended up getting the Dallas police killed.

Especially if you consider slaughtering people entertainment

It's like a lot of Tarantino movies, well made but not realistic. The 50's and 60's in Hollywood is interesting in itself. It doesn't require a lot embellishments. I guess it was ok but it wasn't my thing.

Not sure why Tarrantino is the only one allowed to make memorable movies anymore.
It wasn't. It was some sort of fantasy where Hollywood dude takes out bad guys instead of what really happened when Hollywood types ran into bad guys.

More like a parody of killing people.
It is the one thing I don't like so much about his films... the absurd buckets of blood flying around (literally). It of course isn't meant to be realistic. Django is not a serious movie. It is a comedy through and through, and so he continues the comedy in the waay over the top blood scenes.
Once upon a time is Hollywood is entertaining, but the last part of the movie... yeah... a bit overdone.

I have always considered a Tarantino movie to be like a Porn Film.
Instead of nonstop sex, there is nonstop violence

With utter brilliance sprinkled in between.
Like Pulp Fiction.
The apartment scene, the whole scene including the walk up arguing whether rubbing feet is sexual.
The restaurant scene
This is damn good coffee.

Django....
The KKK scene
Meeting the local sheriff
Why is that negro on a horse?

These scenes make the movie.

Since I grew up in Culver City ( The Heart of Screenland ) and grew up playing on Movie Backlots ( 3 MGM and the famous Back 40 of Desi Lu ) and being 10 in 1969
And remembering it all well , this Film was like a time machine that took me straight back to that time .

Excellent film. Then again I am biased. I love anything by Quentin Tarantino.

Sounds interesting. Have to give it a look

Tarantino has said a couple of times that all his movies takes place in an alternate universe.
