  • 1971 - Joe Frazier beats Muhammad Ali at Madison Square Garden (New York City, New York) in 15 rounds, retains heavyweight boxing title (first of three great fights!)
 
Just saw that fight for the first time in 50 years on Sunday.

Ali took the fight to Frazier and jabbed him at will. But Frazier swarmed him and got the big shots in.

The decision was not even close, but Ali pulled a Trump and never admitted he lost that fight or that Frazier was the Champ.

The "Thrilla in Manilla" was a much greater fight. A war...both guys took such a beating.

I had seen the Thrilla in Manila many times, but the first fight was buried and never shown.
