Olive Garden will close on Christmas. Score one for conservatives

Midnight Mass, a couple of hours sleep and the fun begins. Family, food, gifts, etc. It's exhausting but so magical
Sleep in. Used to go to church but no more. Avoid people. Kids come over smoked ribs and ham. No gifts except for one grandkid per 3 grown kids. Perfect day.

That's you. We're different.

Jesus is THE reason for the season.

^^ The never ending culture wars between the left and the right, show the right starting to win some battles. Recently it was Cracker Barrel who was FORCED to stop their "changeover", bring back the old white guy and his barrel, get out of the "woke" business, and just go back to making good food. Their CEO is hanging on by a thread, by the way.

This time, it's Olive Garden who decided that the almighty dollar isn't quite as important this year, and they will close all of their restaurants for Christmas, and give their employees the day off. Nice job, OG.

From the article: Walmart, Target, Costco, and Trader Joe's, have also adopted Christmas Day closures.

Small wins, but they add up.
As long as the Chinese restaurants remain open on Xhristmas Eve, I’m OK with all that!

I guess it depends on one's home. My brother-in-law's home is like a Christmas winter wonderland that you'd never want to leave. His wife is an absolute nut when it comes to decorating their house. Santa's workshop could not look any better.

I swear they must fill their attic with xmas decorations just to store it all in the off season.
At my old age i have 2 heinekens or foreign beers, then eats. Lots of food. We used to put lights out but now see zero absolute zero reason to do something dumb like that. Pointless.

Capitalidm does NOT include morals. Its ONLY about making a buck. I support the right to open if one wants. Church is a choice, left for people to decide not what you think.

The only reason why everything is open on Sundays now is because one or a few people decided to open Sundays to make extra money and enough people came in to offset the cost of being open. That left all the other businesses on deciding whether they wanted to risk being closed and that business going to a competitor, so now, practically everything is open on Sunday because competition is so stiff.

Closing on Christmas Day is not about making a buck, it is about saying enough to the insanity and actually respecting the holiday and their employees more than the few dollars they'd make being open that day.

It also has nothing to do with conservatism or liberalism.

Freedom and liberty. Insanity is the rat race we live in. Its like serving a prison sentence. Get up go to work. Day after day. Talk about insanity.

Somewhat ironically, Lox and Bagels with Cream Cheese and Capers is a family tradition for Christmas morning breakfast.

In the DC and NY areas, at least, there WAS a demand for Sunday openings. There was (and still is) a sizeable Jewish population that did not shop on Saturdays, and that meant we schoolkids had to gobble down dinner on weeknights when we needed something for school, and head out at 7:00 pm to the shopping mall.

It was especially difficult during the autumn and winter months, when we had to get in the car, IN THE DARK, when we were already tired from a full day of school. Then, we got home around 9:30, and STILL had homework to do.

It was so nice once we had the option to shop on Sundays.

At my old age as someone who has lost a spouse...I haven’t had a tree up for a number of years. Things have changed recently and I have to tell you that I’ve completely embraced the “dumb” things of having a tree, listening to carols, putting tinsel out...I’ve made my own turkeys the last two years and will probably do another one this year.

If this is what "winning" looks like, I'm thrilled to be on the "losing" team. Wow.

The fear is overblown, like many things, but there is really no reason for this business to be open on Christmas. It's probably the most important holiday among Americans. Unless you're providing an essential need, to me, it's shitty to make your employees work. Years ago, I worked for a small restaurant chain and was part of the staff for a new location. The owner came in and spoke to us and told us that he closes all the restaurants for the major holidays and Super Bowl Sunday. He told us if he can't make money the other 358 days of the year, then he probably shouldn't be in business. There is no reason these corporations can't adopt the same policy.

Couldn’t agree more. Thinking there is some sort of political win or loss involved is silly.

I wish you mods would more closely police threads like this that are dumped into politics to simply get attention that it wouldn’t get if it were in the economy or GD forums

Dont drink ametican beer its full of chemicals

I don't know where you live, but almost every store except convenience and drug stores have always been closed on Christmas. That includes most restaurants except of course Chinese restaurants. They open and make a lot of money! :abgg2q.jpg:

When I’ve gone to Chinese restaurants on Christmas Eve, everyone stands up and says a brucha over the bread before eating!
