The price goes up because California requires a different gasoline blend to be used during the warmer months of summer. That blend is even more expensive than the already expensive blend they require the rest of the year.

And they are continuing to fall as oil dropped below $80/bbl today and avg gas prices dropped another two cents.

CA is a whole different animal. I lived east of the bay area for over 40 years and in addition to the summer formulations, you could almost set your watch to the bay area refineries shutting down for maintenance or break downs in the summer which also caused prices to rise more.

We're entering summer now, so gas is going to go down.........because the sales on gas will cover the price dropping from all the people travelling for summer vacations and such.
