Would you rather see "Charlie Brown's Christmas" or the season finale of "Lost" rather than hear another propaganda speech from the President?
These questions seem to be appropriate these days even as some of the President's supporters are wondering whether the bloom is coming off the rose. Is the silver tongue losing its luster? Is the President losing his Moxie? Are the people beginning to think the emperor has no clothes?
There seems to be more and more anger that he is fast tracking something as important as a massive healthcare reform bill, something that mostly won't go into effect until after his next election, just so he will have a major 'success' to brag about in the State of the Union address. That strikes many as selfish, self-serving, reckless, and irresponsible.
And, to ensure it will be passed, he now wants to give the SOTU on the first Tuesday in February instead of the last Tuesday in January which will pre-empt the season finale of "Lost". He already pre-empted Charlie Brown's Christmas with another speech. Networks lose millions every time he goes on prime time with a 'non essential' press conference or speech and they are beginning to grumble. As are people who would rather see their favorite shows than hear another meatless speech.
