I have not yet received the announcement in the mail. But I expect it will arrive any day now.
After all, Robert Mueller and James Comey appear to be acting in concert as co-special counsel. Why not make it official with a formal notice of their union?
It was obvious it would evolve this way from the very moment Mueller was named on May 17th.
Which is why I wrote a column two days later, arguing that Mueller should resign as special counsel. He has a flagrant conflict of interest that disqualifies him from serving. To wit, his personal and professional closeness to Comey. They have long been allies. Comey regards his predecessor at the FBI as a mentor, while Mueller considers Comey his protégé.
It was evident at the outset that the fired FBI Director would be the pivotal witness in any potential obstruction of justice investigation by Mueller. Therefore, it was incomprehensible that Rod Rosenstein, the Acting Attorney General, would choose him. It was equally baffling that Mueller would accept the position.
I remember reacting to the news with the words, “are you kidding?” Turns out, it was no joke.
Conflict of Interest Defined
The law governing the special counsel (28 CFR 600.7) specifically prohibits Mueller from serving if he has a “conflict of interest.” Even the appearance of a conflict is disallowed.

Well, Obama, was saying there was no intent to harm the U.S., the degree of classified emails that Mrs. Clinton was trafficking in is very exaggerated. Obama went public with all this! He went public with his own exoneration and thought that the investigation should be brought to a screeching halt. And it was! Comey got together and they stopped the investigation, and that allowed them and Hillary — for the rest of the campaign — to say she had been cleared. That’s why they got so mad at Comey when he did the July 5th press conference, because back in April, Obama thought he’d taken care of this.

What is the Deep State? Who are its members? What is their motive? How many of them are there? These are the questions we ask as we wonder why there is so much resistance against a non-politician U.S. president.
Defining the Deep State as anyone in the federal government who has something to gain by keeping the government as it is, these people would be the elected officials (both Democrats and Republicans), political appointees, and some of the civil servants.
The elected officials want to keep the status quo. It gives them power. If the government were small, nobody would care about what it does. With the government big, campaign contributors eagerly enrich the politicians through donations, jobs for relatives, and the personal services of "ladies."
Civil servants in the intelligence industry have a way to thwart a president. They leak rumors to the press that the president consorted with an enemy country. It sounds like legitimate information because it came from the intelligence industry. Of course, the anonymous can say whatever they want and not be held accountable. There is no obligation to tell the truth.
James Comey did something similar after he was fired. It sounds impressive that leaks of official memoranda reveal that President Trump committed obstruction of justice. It sounds pitiful if Comey tells the New York Times directly that he is a disgruntled ex-employee, he felt that Trump treated him harshly, and he has his notes saying so. It is the same information presented in a different way.
Who is not among the Deep State? The Republican elected officials who hate the government with every fiber of their being. Which Republicans are they? They are the ones who speak of their hatred with anger in their voices. Some people fake this anger, but you can tell the difference. This is why Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio were the frontrunners in the Republican primaries. The problem is that those who hate the government today may grow to love it after they get comfortable in Washington.

Got it. Anyone who believes our country might have some problems, but our system government is the best that has ever been devised, and that doesn't go along and support Trump acting like the spoiled brat that he is and destroying large parts of the fabric of the country is the deep state.

The State Department’s own “deep state” is trying to sabotage President Trump’s foreign policy agenda. From the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to Iran, Qatar and climate change, the State Department, under Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, is reported to be in "open war" with the White House. Key high level positions remain vacant as Obama holdovers “continue running the show and formulating policy, where they have increasingly clashed with the White House's own agenda,” according to the Free Beacon. Secretary Tillerson has reportedly run interference to protect the Obama holdovers from being removed, allowing resistance to President Trump’s foreign policy agenda to flourish within the State Department.
The first casualty of this internal coup by the State Department’s deep state is Israel. The shadow of the Obama administration’s anti-Israel bias was reflected in a report the State Department released on July 17, 2017 entitled Country Reports on Terrorism 2016. It praised Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas for reiterating “his commitment to nonviolence, recognition of the State of Israel, and pursuit of an independent Palestinian state through peaceful means.” The report referred to what it called “significant steps during President Abbas’ tenure (2005 to date) to ensure that official institutions in the West Bank under its control do not create or disseminate content that incites violence."

There are other potential pockets of resistance to President Trump’s climate change policies inside the State Department, such as the Office of Global Change. It too should be shut down or sharply curtailed.
President Trump, not State Department bureaucrats, was elected by the American people. He should have the final say on policy matters within his scope of executive authority, which includes the setting of foreign policy priorities. Deep state saboteurs within the State Department and other government agencies need to be rooted out at once and removed from positions of influence where they can do harm to the president’s agenda.

The Times didn’t think this was good news; it gave space to one career diplomat who lamented that there was “complete and utter disdain for our expertise.”
This could be the best news to come out of Washington since the Trump administration took office.
We can only hope that with the departure of these failed State Department officials, their failed policies will be swept out along with them. Chief among these is the almost universally held idea that poverty causes terrorism. The United States has wasted uncounted (literally, because a great deal of it was in untraceable bags full of cash) billions of dollars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt, and other countries in the wrongheaded assumption that Muslims turn to jihad because they lack economic opportunities and education. American officials built schools and hospitals, thinking that they were winning over the hearts and minds of the locals.

Last week former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, who said she made unmasking requests solely for legitimate security — as opposed to political — purposes, testified before a closed-door session of the Senate intelligence committee. Sources familiar with the investigation have told The Washington Times that the unmasking issue never came up during the hearing.
Leaks of sensitive classified data have been a focus for Rep. Devin Nunes, California Republican and House intelligence committee chairman who formally ran the panel’s Russia probe.
