People's lives are not at stake and people's health are not at stake, but their assets may be if they do not have insurance. Comprehensive routine health care is available at federally funded and privately funded free clinics everywhere in the US, and if you become seriously ill, once you spend down your assets, you can qualify for Medicaid, so the question is, how much should we pay to protect people who most likely have few assets to begin with from going broke if they become seriously ill?
