Obama Used Democrat Campaign Staffer In SOTU In Other Events

The woman whose story of economic recovery was showcased by President Barack Obama in his State of the Union address is a former Democratic campaign staffer and has been used by Obama for political events in the past.

Rebekah Erler has been presented by the White House as a woman who was discovered by the president after she wrote to him last March about her economic hardships. She was showcased in the speech as proof that middle class Americans are coming forward to say that Obama’s policies are working.

Unmentioned in the White House bio of Erler is that she is a former Democratic campaign operative, working as a field organizer for Sen. Patty Murray (D., Wash.).

This also wasn’t the first time the White House used the former Democratic campaign staffer as a political prop. Obama spent a “day in the life” of Erler in June so that he could have “an opportunity to communicate directly with the people he’s working for every day.”

Reuters revealed Erler’s Democratic affiliations following that June event, and the Minnesota Republican Party attacked Obama for being “so out of touch with reality that he thinks a former Democrat campaign staffer speaks for every Minnesotan.”

Obama used Erler as an example that the economy is getting better. Here is the part of Obama’s speech regarding Erler. Her political work goes unmentioned:

It wasn't hard to discover this, but all this proves is Obama could care less if he's exposed as a fraud. He figures that the population is so polarized that the truth doesn't matter anymore.

Seven years ago, Rebekah and Ben Erler of Minneapolis were newlyweds. She waited tables. He worked construction. Their first child, Jack, was on the way.

Do you think it's okay for the president to commit fraud. If he's doing it with the little things, he's also probably doing it with the big things as well. At the link below Rebekah claims she was surprised that Obama answered her letter. Truth is, the whole thing was staged. She had been a Democrat campaign staffer for quite some time and was already an insider.

Here in Minneapolis, aides had highlighted Obama’s meeting with a local woman named Rebekah Erler, 36, an accountant and mother of two young boys who had sent the president a letter in March expressing her frustration about child-care bills that were higher than her mortgage payment. They arranged for a presidential meeting at Matt’s Bar, a well-known local hangout billed as the “Home of the Jucy Lucy,” a burger stuffed with cheese.

Obama worked the room, greeting a couple — Josh and Kelly Schustak of St. Cloud, Minn. — who asked what his favorite television show is. “Of all time?” he asked, then thought about it for a moment and told them “M.A.S.H.”

Soon the president joined Erler at a booth by the wall for a private conversation. The White House later confirmed that he ordered the house specialty.

At the town hall event, Obama said that one topic Erler raised was gun control and the mass shooting at a school in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012. He told the crowd that it was the worst day of his presidency and that his inability to persuade lawmakers to pass new gun-control provisions is his biggest disappointment with Congress.

In the end, it appeared that Erler saw more of Obama’s daily life than he saw of hers. She rode to the town hall meeting in his limousine. She was interviewed by NBC News correspondent Chris Jansing.

And when a pack of reporters tried to follow up with another interview, White House aides abruptly cut off reporters when she appeared flustered by the attention.

  Republicans have also tried to highlight that the Twin Cities mother who has come to embody the trip for the president had been a Democratic campaign worker in Washington State.
  
  Dayton came to Minnesota after Twin Cities’ mother Rebekah Erler wrote him a letter about the hardships of raising a family.
  
  Obama had lunch with Erler on Thursday and sprinkled anecdotes through her life throughout her speech.
  
  “It’s amazing what you can bounce back from when you have to,” she wrote to the president. “We’re a strong, tight-knit family who has made it through some very, very hard times.”
  
  Obama took that personal anecdote to make a larger statement about the country.
