For a man who only recently bred a cult, ordinariness is a great burden, and for his acolytes, a crushing disappointment. Obama has become a politician like others. And like other flailing presidents, he will try to salvage a cherished reform -- and his own standing -- with yet another prime-time speech.

snip...

What happened to President Obama? His wax wings having melted, he is the man who fell to earth. What happened to bring his popularity down further than that of any new president in polling history save Gerald Ford (post-Nixon pardon)? The conventional wisdom is that Obama made a tactical mistake by farming out his agenda to Congress and allowing himself to be pulled left by the doctrinaire liberals of the Democratic congressional leadership. But the idea of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi pulling Obama left is quite ridiculous. Where do you think he came from, this friend of Chávista ex-terrorist William Ayers, of PLO apologist Rashid Khalidi, of racialist inciter Jeremiah Wright?

snip......

But for the first time since election night in Grant Park, he will appear in the most unfamiliar of guises -- mere mortal, a treacherous transformation to which a man of Obama's supreme self-regard may never adapt.

The puppet and antichrist will be defeated, good always wins over evil!!!

Republicans think in terms of "mysticism" and "occult leader". I think it may be genetic.

For Democrats, Obama is the elected president of the United States.

For Republicans, Bush was the messiah, because he "talked" with and was "guided by" God. For that reason, Republicans assume that Democrats must feel the same way about Obama they felt about Bush.

They have the same attitude with science. It's why they are always trying to turn "science" into a "religion". It's how they think. It's who they are.

Yeah, which explains all the hysteria about Obama including the people fainting and crying at his rallies. :cuckoo::cuckoo:

or people praying to their picture of George Bush.
There is alway lunatics no matter the party.

A very astute observation.

We see this on this board frequently.

Some right wing cranks keep referring to Obama as the liberal messiah, as though this is the term liberal use about him.

It's really a classic example of the not very bright right wingers PROJECTING their goofy way of thinking leadership onto liberals.

Since most of these idiots are religious, naturally they'll project their religious based values onto other people.

Liberals think Obama might be a decent POTUS.

The right wing idiot insist therefore that liberals think he's a demigod because that is how they think about leaders generally.

It's actually pretty funny how these fools telegraph their own religiously perverted POVs by insisting it must the thinking patterns of the people they hate.

I don't know about anyone else, but I knew I was voting for a mortal human being. The whole Obama as the Messiah myth is just that, a myth. If anybody really thought the man was superhuman, they were bound to be in for a rude awakening.
Does Obama have an ego? Uh, what pol doesn't? How much more so anyone who actually wants the job of POTUS, on any "side"? Do those on the right really expect anyone to believe McCain, Palin and the rest are shining paragons of modest, saintly humility? That's just plain silly.
Lighten up people, on the internet all kinds of conspiracies, assumptions, falsehoods, myths and legends abound. But everybody doesn't have to be either a total saint or a complete demon, they are and will always be human. And in real life people are neither as smart nor as stupid as the online extremists would have them appear.

You know, you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. People are beginning to see Obama for what he is - just another Chicagoland political hack. The only problem, he is way too left leaning and is steering this country towards socialism or worst. I am certainly glad that Rush Limbaugh hoped for his policies to fail. I do too and I believe they are going to fail because the American public doesn't want what he's bringing to the table. What he promised to do while campaigning for President and what's he's actually doing are two completely different things which makes him just like all the other politicians - a bold faced liar that will say or do anything to get elected. I am truly glad that these one-term Presidents are so easy to pick out. There is a very sad element to this Obama story. Sure, he's the first black President but it's too bad that first for the black people of this country has to be such a sorry example as he is. In one regard, his getting elected has been very good for this country. There's a very clear picture of what the Democrats will do if they remain in power after the 2010 and 2012 elections. I believe we are going to see that "change you can believe in" come the next couple of election cycles.

The confidence game only works when you can cool the Mark. And Obama successfully did that during the campaign. We voted for him because he ran as a Centrist, and people hoped he would govern as such. But one of his remarks was quite telling, if you really read it:

"What you see in FDR.... umm that I hope my team can emulate is, not always getting it right, but projecting a sense of confidence."

Projecting a sense of confidence is exactly what con men do. And it's always more important to the con man than getting it right. Because getting it right isn't the goal, pulling off the successful con is.

The Marks aren't cooled anymore. The con man reached for too much, too quickly and the awakened public is catching on to the game.

And truly, it's too late now. Obama really can do pretty much whatever he wants, with a willing lapdog Congress at his feet, they will get this Health Scare bill passed no matter what it takes. They need no Pug support or votes at all, to get it done.

And those in Congress who will vote for this care not at all about keeping their seats. They are far too invested in this President doing well, they are willing to fall on their swords for him. And they also realize that if the economy recovers or is SOLD as recovering (which has already started) the sheep will be back in the pen and will re-elect them in 2010 anyway.

So the first part of the con -- the most important part -- worked beautifully. He's ensconced in power, surrounded by willing servants in the legislative branch instead of opposition like it's supposed to be, our checks and balances have been eroded to a nub, and there's nothing which can be done about it except at the ballot box in 2010 and 2012.

Will the sheep get back in the pen before then?

They are gambling that they will.
