Obama Is Risking a U.S. Ebola Outbreak for His Own Ambitions - Yahoo Finance
Why? Because of Bush of course, in this case because Bush embarrasses him in Africa.
So after whining that Obama wants "big government" you are now whining because there isn't enough "big government" to protect you?
No whining about not having enough government. It is their constitutional duty to protect Americans.
In this case, the government has created many agencies that are supposedly designed to protect us from various threats. We pour a great deal of money into these agencies and expect that they will work the way they are supposed to do. So, the CDC hasn't been on top of this. Obama is supposed to direct agencies to do what they need to in order to keep people safe.
A lot of talking has been done, but little action. It's easy to say that we should do more. Duh! Apparently, Obama watched the news and discovered that his previous advice about this not reaching the U.S. or not being able to catch it easily is false. Now he sees that many people are critical of the gross lack of action to this problem. The time for this talk was long ago when the problem was easier to contain. Hospitals should have been briefed long before a case showed up in the ER.
We are famous for being reactive instead of proactive and this is why it's bad. Had hospitals been aware of all signs and symptoms of Ebola and had a plan in place to deal with it, it's likely the first patient would still be alive.
There is an alert out for the people on a flight with a patient to call the CDC so they can get tested. The time to get a handle on it has long passed. Now drastic measures are required to contain it, but there is still no plan in place.
What has the CDC done to prepare for this? Seems nothing.
Public notices informing people of what symptoms to look for should be on air right now. Hospitals should have a list of necessary supplies and protocol to ensure the safety of the staff and the best treatment for the patients. Flu season has started and people will panic if they aren't better informed. The ERs will likely be overrun with people thinking that their illness is Ebola.
