Obama library, begun with lofty DEI goals, now plagued by $40M racially charged suit, ballooning costs

The amount of corruption in USAID and other agencies, I have no doubt taxpayer money is funding this fiasco.
Presidents are expected to raise their own funding for each presidential library. The only involvement of the federal government is that NARA oversees (and technically maintains possession) of records displayed in the presidential library. Obama is not following that model however.

". . .Does the Obama Library follow the same model as earlier Presidential Libraries?

No. The Obama Foundation, a private entity, made the decision in 2017 not to construct a Presidential Library for NARA to house the records (textual, audiovisual, and artifacts). Instead, the Obama Foundation plans to build and operate a private museum and presidential center in Chicago. NARA will digitize and then store and preserve all original presidential records and artifacts in an existing NARA facility that meets NARA’s standards for archival storage. NARA retains legal and physical custody of the records and artifacts. NARA will maintain, preserve, and provide access to the Presidential records of the Obama administration, in accordance with the Presidential Records Act, employing a digital model for access to opened records and loans of materials for display around the world, including at the private Obama Presidential Center. Educational and public programs, both live and virtual, will also be a critical component of the Obama Presidential Library. . ."

In case you haven't been exposed to them personally, there are MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of ignorant, racist or just plain gullible people who absolutely worship the Obamas as the greatest thing that ever happened in US history. They have statues, pictures and all kinds of Obama worshipping items throughout their homes. They are entirely clueless that Obama F'ed them along with everyone else.

China has successfully converted America into the worlds premier Idiocracy.
And Obama can keep F'ing them.

It's a shrine.

It's a shrine.
Well in fairness to Obama, most presidential libraries are. President Eisenhower's in Abilene Ks is amazing and being very close to where we lived in Kansas, we took visitors there often.

But Obama's is apparently not going to be the traditional library and won't be the educational opportunity that most are. But then with so little to claim as an accomplishment, I guess he figured he might as well bypass that part.

I have no clue what Biden might put in his library that he would want anybody to see.

Trump's library will be awesome and crammed absolutely full of interesting and informative events/accomplishments/teaching opportunities. I assume he'll have one instead of two being the only President with non consecutive terms since there have been presidential libraries.

Like all "his" other decisions the past 4 years, that's out of his hands.

Perhaps the most racist president this country has known, the Obama shrine suffers from the caustic effects of everything that plagued the Obama administration; DIE,
Delays, cost overruns and racial animosity.

Construction of former President Barack Obama's long-awaited library and museum in Chicago began with ambitious plans for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) but is now plagued by huge cost overruns, delays and a $40.75-million, racially charged lawsuit filed by a minority contractor.

From the outset, the endeavor touted DEI as a key part of enshrining Obama's legacy at the 19.3-acre site, where costs have ballooned from an initial $350 million to $830 million in 2021 based on its previous annual reports, with no publicly available figures available for updated projected costs. The project set out "ambitious goals" for certain construction diversity quotas, with its contracts to be allocated to "diverse suppliers," 35% of which were required to be minority-based enterprises (MBEs).
Everything associated with Obama is mired in incompetence.

I'm sure the library cost no more that 10 or 15 million to build. The rest is money laundering, like all DemoKKKrat operations.
I don't know. This is a mockup of the finished Obama library if it ever gets finished. Pretty exotic.

$350MM for a library!????? That's absurd from the start but $850MM??? That's got to be taxpayer funded right?
That's how much it will cost to buy the three books by Obama, a statue of Obama, a painting of Obama, and the advertising necessary to attract visitors.

Chicago South Side residents say they’re being displaced by Obama Center: Causing ‘harm to Black families’

Chicago residents are growing increasingly concerned about the damage the Obama Presidential Center will have on their community, as longtime South Side families are being displaced by soaring rent prices and unsustainable living costs which they blame on the former president’s project.

The Obama Presidential Center hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking in September 2021, revealing a massive 19-acre plot that is designed to host a public library branch, playground, community centers and a museum that aims to revitalize the South Side of Chicago.

It is being financed mostly through private donations.

But the ongoing $500 million project, which remains under construction, has reignited fears among longtime residents that the center will gentrify the community and that the positive “economic impact” promised by the former president will instead raise property values and make housing costs unaffordable.

An article published Monday by the Washington Post, titled “Chicago neighbors say Obama center is raising rents, forcing them out,” examined the center’s impact on neighboring communities, noting that median home prices have more than doubled since the center was first unveiled.

The Post article, written by Marissa J. Lang, features interviews with longtime South Side residents who were priced out of their communities after spending decades in the same home and details a recent exchange between Brandon Johnson, one of the Democrats running to replace Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) in a runoff this week, with residents last month.

“We have to make sure, for families that live in the very communities where economic development is taking place, that landlords don’t see it as an opportunity to push the families out who have been a part of these communities for decades,” Johnson said.

“The Obama Center is not being built for Chicago,” another resident replied. “It’s being built for the world. …[And the people of the world] don’t want us here. So what do you think is going to happen?”

The WaPo report also cites Dixon Romeo, a South Shore native and community activist, who told reporters recently that residents don’t want “Obama’s legacy marred by the displacement of thousands of Black families.”

“This is the community that sent him to the White House, and we should be the community that gets to stay and benefit from the presidential center,” Romeo said.

Tahiti Hamer, 42, a single mother of three is among the longtime South Side residents who spoke to the outlet after being forced out of her home as rent became untenable.

Those silly, selfish people should be HONORED that Obama condescended to grace their (former) neighborhood with his golden presence.

Well, if they are having that kind of inflation, they could possibly need to thank Obama's mismanagement of the Biden Administration more than is likely the effect of the Obama Center.

How many years will it take to finish this library? Obama has already been out of office for eight years.
