Obama, Bush, Clinton to travel to South Africa

I'm getting sick of these petty false equivalencies of Republicans

Sorry boys, Thatcher does not come close to Mandela in historical impact. Thirty years from now, few will remember who Thatcher was........Mandela will still be honored a century from now

Bullshit.

Nelson will be only remembered in S.A.

Thatcher will be remembered everywhere except there.

Good god, you guys are delusional. Thatcher will be remembered as the first female prime minister of the UK. Her accomplishments were average at best

As you can see this week......the accomplishments of Mandela are one for the ages

Modern day Moses

Nobody seems to want to spell our what the accomplishments of Mr Mandela actually were. He did NOT end apartheid. De Klerk ended apartheid and one of the things he did to end it was to release Mandela.

He DID establish what turned out to be a very temporary democracy in SA.

Incidentally Thatcher (in a now declassified letter) wrote to P W Botha, the then President of SA, in 1985 - yes that's 1985 - telling him he should release Mandela at once.

As expected, Carter will be going to SA to honor Mandela, so that makes four of the five living presidents paying tribute to the man.

Mandela trip dominates Obama's schedule

GHW Bush will not be, due to ill health, though if he could, I'm sure he would be there.

Other notables going: Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince Charles, Desmond Tutu, and a ton of other foreign dignitaries.

There will be 10 days of national mourning, with the first major event being the Memorial service, December 10.

That will be at the Johannesburg soccer stadium which holds close to 100,000 people.

Some are saying Mandela will get the greatest burial in history!

Anyone who says Mandela will "only be remembered in S.A." is out of their skull.

De Klerk ended apartheid with a gun to his head

The world tolerated apartheid for decades as South Africa's problem. Mandela made it the worlds problem. Every day he spent in that cell was another nail in the coffin for apartheid.
