NYPD officer in Eric Garner case fired

If I break a policy at work I'm likely going to get fired. If I break a policy at work and someone dies, you can bet I am going to get fired.

I have no idea why some hold a police officer to a different standard. Just do what you are instructed and no one gets fired.

There is a serious question as to if he intended to apply a chokehold, or was just wrestling with a very large, resisting man, along with other officers.

The Admin Judge called it a chokehold, but many disagree.

Many disagree with a judge's ruling in many cases. Does that matter?

It matters in this case because you are arguing he should have been fired.

Based upon court findings. I hold the officer to the same standard I would have been held to.

Don’t. Your not a cop and you have never been in the situation. He did his job and got screwed for it. It was a political statement. Cops have to make split second decisions. They don’t have the luxury of being able to think about it. The guy kept resisting and they were trying to subdue him. Sad that he died but it’s not the cops fault. Your just a Monday morning quarterback Until you walk in the shoes and do the job your opinion is shit

The same kind of ignorance that causes so much confusion in the "assault" weapon issue is operating in the so-called "chokehold" issue. Those who wish to debate this issue must learn the difference between a 'chokehold' and a 'stranglehold.'

While a 'chokehold' is a very effective way to bring someone down without exerting injurious force it appears to the unacquainted eye to be a 'stranglehold,' which is potentially lethal. The difference in the two maneuvers involves positioning of the aggressor's forearm bone in relation to the subject's trachea. In a 'chokehold' the forearm bone is not applied across the trachea, which can cause strangulation and fracture of the hyoid and other small bones in the throat. But a 'stranglehold' is the deliberate and forceful positioning of the forearm bone over the trachea.

Anyone who is skilled or simply knowledgeable in wrestling is aware of this important difference, but those who are neither skilled nor knowledgeable in this activity can and often will mistake a 'chokehold' for a 'stranglehold' because both appear very similar. Anyone who watches UFC ('cage-fighting') matches will frequently see the 'chokehold' applied. Another name for the 'chokehold' is the 'sleeper-hold' because if applied strenuously and for more than 60 seconds this hold can restrict blood flow to the brain and cause unconsciousness -- not strangulation. The 'chokehold' does not restrict breathing.

Is your life at risk by ghetto thugs every day?

Irrelevant. The Constitution applies to everyone. No ones life was at risk at that for someone selling loose cigarette's. (not that he was). The city simply wanted their tax. Taxes are a good thing now?
His life wasnt at risk if he had just complied. He created the situation that led to his own death. Unhealthy fat people should be the last people to try and fight cops.

This isn't what it is because of him being overweight. It is what it is because the police violated his civil rights.

Being overweight does not give them the right to do that.

Not surprising, since the Judge reviewing the case recommended it, and the current Police Chief is nothing more than a DiBlasio shill.

Needless to say the PBA isn't happy about this:

This is how you remove normal people from the police.....and then, you fill the police with democrat thugs, who will do what you tell them to do.......

The courts and his superiors all said that what he did violated policy. You trying to come up with new definitions does not change that.

Crime is going to skyrocket.

it's already creeping up, as are the old indicators of general lawlessness, sleeping homeless on the subway, and panhandlers.

Yep......the first action by socialists....raise taxes....next, attack the police.....when crime increases....blame republicans......

I didn't realize negroes had the right to resist arrest. I know my white privilege doesn't allow me...

Thats simply not true. Ive seen the strongest grapplers on earth choke people during fights, and no one ever dies. Eric Garner died because he was obese.

He was selling untaxed cigarettes (likely stolen), in front of a business that sells cigarettes, who were following the rules but losing money to this crook. Selling untaxed cigarettes is illegal.

This is more then what he did. This is what he did after also. TV law enforcement dramas do the same thing for decades. Sarcasm, arrogance, obnoxious remarks and facial/body contortion acts does not leave a good impression around people. In fact innocent people receive the treatment also. People do not forget. I understand if a cop is numb and burnt out a bit. But many are not. The law enforcement/corrections/judicial power fiefdom is strong and most of the time found innocent unless they are real bad at their infraction or are used as a scapegoat for the real issue to deflect other problems. That laughing and joking after that guy's death did not go down well. One other thing. Was Garner in front of a store? Did the store owner/employee call the police? Was the store owner/employee African American or some other background?

Yes, the store called the cops because they were paying for that place of business, which drew in customers who wanted to buy cigarettes. Eric Garner stood outside and sold untaxed cigarettes, uncutting their business. It was a real dick move, and illegal.

The police officer can go across the river and get a job with the NJPD or even WWE. If he can wrestle the likes of Eric to the floor, he could definately compete with the brutes of professional wrestling.
Yes, as long as he has a guy not fighting back and 4 guys to help.

I'm glad this pussy got fired.

Neat! But nobody has said he should not have been penalized, so exactly with whom are you arguing?

Im not arguing with anyone. Im talking to the guy that i quoted. He literally asked the question in the post i quoted, and i answered it. Up to speed now?

The policeman was not prosecuted
He was removed from his job for not doing his job

After he was investigated for indictment at the State AND the Federal level.

This reeks of them settling for crumbs.

He was doing his job, the question was how he did his job. Garner resisted arrest.
Since when is death the penalty for resisting arrest?
