• FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said that so many firefighters called out sick to stay on payroll that some firehouses have been temporarily out of service

Hundreds of New York City firefighters took sick leave on Friday instead of complying with Mayor Bill de Blasio's deadline for all city workers to be vaccinated or be placed on unpaid leave - causing some firehouses to shut their doors because of staff shortages.
'The excessive sick leave ... because of their anger at the vaccine mandate for all city employees is unacceptable,' said FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro, who oversees a department where more than a quarter of its workers have not had one COVID vaccine shot.

According to the Post, the FDNY saw firefighters' vaccination rate rise from 67 percent Friday morning to 72 percent by the end of the day.
The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) - which is part of the FDNY - saw a spike to 84 percent - up from 77 percent
Vaccination rates among NYPD's 55,000-strong police force rose from 80 to 84 percent.
The Department of Sanitation also saw a jump in vaccination rate, from 67 percent to 76, according to the Post.
These figures mean that 10,951 firefighters; about 36,000 cops; and 10,000 emergency responders - around 4,300 of whom are employed by the fire department - have yet to get jabbed.
Close to a quarter of the city's 7,200 uniformed sanitation workers also remain unvaccinated.

Instead of inspiring people to get their jabs, De Blasio's edict has triggered furious protests and warnings that up to 40 percent of firehouses could close, with up to 150 fewer ambulances a day in service.

New York City residents voted fin majorities for both Mayor De Blasio and for Joey Xi Bai Dung, they got both.
Crime has risen by over 300%, Residential and structural Fires within the Five Boroughs have been increasing, while the Mayor has shut firehouses reducing the number of FDNY personnel. Emergency Services are also being hit and this will extend the response times. Then there's the NYSD Sanitation has always been a problem within the city, while the mayor has also cut the number of workers within this area too.
During the initial pandemic Mayor De Blasio ordered that these essential employees of the City report to work and so they did being exposed to the Wuhan Covid-19 virus daily, His tyrannical order for compulsory vaccination goes beyond violation of individual rights.
By enforcing the mandate, New York City will virtually shut down....
ON Tuesday a new Mayor will be elected within the City. One has to wonder if things can go from bad to worse, or will the residents of the city elect an individual who can make the city safer, cleaner, and especially have a less corrupt City legislation.

On Thursday, we looked at the possibility that the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) might need to close up to 20% of the firehouses in Gotham due to manpower shortages caused by the city’s vaccine mandate for municipal employees. It was similarly possible that they would need to take an equal portion of ambulances out of service. This caused a great deal of consternation across the five boroughs because of the threat of increased response times for structural fires and medical emergencies. Well, as the old saying goes, that didn’t take long at all. By yesterday morning, the FDNY was already in the process of shutting down no less than 26 fire stations, impacting all five boroughs. And more may be on the way. (NY Post)

Amid all of this chaos, de Blasio continues to insist that there will be no compromise and he will not extend the deadline for vaccinations. Yet there’s one question that the unvaccinated first responders keep asking the Mayor but he’s yet to even attempt to answer. Up until Friday, all of those people were showing up for work and providing weekly negative COVID test results. There has been no measurable spike in new cases among the NYPD or FDNY, just as there hasn’t been with the general public. If that system was functional for months on end, what made it suddenly become dysfunctional at midnight on Friday?
It’s a good question, and one that de Blasio needs to answer for all of the residents of the Big Apple, not just the cops and firefighters. For the moment it remains more of a political discussion. But as some members of the City Council have already pointed out, if someone in Brownsville dies in a fire where it took the firetrucks an extra seven minutes to arrive from a more distant location, the conversation is going to change rapidly.
