I'm not joking. Nuclear weapons are not just tools for mass-murder. First of all, nuclear weapons are tools of deterrence, and demand responsibility. This sort of level-up would change the whole game. There would be no need in playing proxy-games with certain "terroristic" groups, but need in ability to play nuclear-detereence game, meaning, changing of financial streams from Islamic Revolutionary Guard to the Army or Fleet. And, therefore, there was strong opposition to such games among high-ranked politicians. And, of course, non-nuclear Iran was risking non-nuclear bombing campaign and nuclear Iran would risking nuclear exchange.
So, yes, significant part of Iranians thought that it's more safe to don't have nukes, than have them. Now, many of them have changed their mind, but even now, decision of withdrawing from Non Prolifiration Treaty is not made yet.
It's not about loving and kind. It's about deterrence. America can deter nuclear Russia and America would be able to deter nuclear Iran even easier.

There are many ways to stop you. The simplest of them - allow Iran buy North Korean nukes and test one of them. If you don't t alleviate after Iran nuclear testing - Iran will nuke few US bases in Middle East, earning capability to nuke US cities to prevent US attack on Iranian cities.

First of all, Iran has pretty good relationships with North Korea. Second both of them has good relationships with Russia, and can deliver whatever they want by Russian railways. Third, it's not necessary to bring nukes to Iranian territory, they can transport some Iranians (with Navy flags and documents) in China or North Korea, where, on Chinese or North Korean shipyards will be built "cruise missile auxiliary cruisers" disguised as civilian ships and nuclear warheads mounted on Club-MS missiles. If Iranian Parliament gives permission to hire foreign Navy sailors (and they can easily do it), they will even man the ships mostly with Russian/Korean/Chinese crews.

These arent the moves that the "Hermit Kingdom" is into. They arent interested in getting themselves blown up just so they can hand off a nuke to Iran. There is no upside for them. The Hermit Kingdom keeps to themselves.
