I think some of these masks cut down on people's peripheral vision. If you're driving and you see pedestrians with masks (some around here even in the civilized part of Pennsylvania) be really careful. I'd really hate to see someone so concerned about the dam COVID19 get hit by a car

Good point. But I think the masks give the wearers a sense of invincibility as they are doing something designed to protect them from all danger, and that makes them more oblivious to other dangers. Sort of like a modern day scapular.

Actually, that's a pretty reasonable explanation. Anxiety is no fucking joke and can really be disabling. People who are watching the main stream news can easily be freaked the fuck out. Wearing a mask might save someone you don't know from an ER visit later that day, particularly if you cough.

I'm not buying it as much more than a mostly feel good / look good PC move. Look how many people have gotten sick despite wearing the masks! Besides, MM, these masks are designed to catch and trap YOUR expectoration coughing or sneezing (YUM! Imagine sneezing into the inside of your mask then wearing it around for hours all wet and sticky inside!), not to protect you from others. When you inhale, these things leak around the edge exchanging air.

Doctors, et al., wear these things to protect the patient (during surgery, etc.) from THEM, NOT because they are afraid of catching a germ from you.

Besides, you can wear all the masks you want then go home take if off and rub your eye or handle food after touching an infected surface.

And I'm having a bit of trouble believing so many people are walking around contagious and with NO symptoms at all. Just what kind of killer virus leaves 80% of the populous with ZERO ill effects?
