Then again I didn't actually hear anybody mention how he was going to do that and I watched the video twice to make sure that I didn't miss anything. Didn't he also promise to eliminate tax on tips too? 🤨

Admittedly I forgot about those things since I was more focused on the other campaign promises that he hasn't been keeping. Don't get me wrong, this was a great speech and I really hope that Trump's able to pull it off two years after the fact, but we'll just have to wait and see. Currently, I'm not holding my breath. 🙄

I guess that it's also possible that the democrats could be standing in his way too but....

He promised no tax on SS below a certain level. I still paid tax on mine.

Yeah but how is he going to do that? As far as I'm aware that hasn't happened yet either. I'm not personally affected by this, I just still want to see him keeping his campaign promises because he's starting to remind me of The Wizard Of Oz.

Everybody acts like he's all great and powerful and he promises to grant everyone's wishes one moment and the next moment he changes his mind and it's like pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. 🙄

I don't worry about as it won't affect me one way or the other.

True, but that's not my point. He's losing supporters and I can see why because at the moment he's full of bologna. Nothing personal against you though.

He is full of it alright.

Wow, you actually agree with me? That's a rarity on here. It's sad that apart from the part about JD Vance that I agree with this song.

It's a temporary deduction for those 65 and over. Again, it's temporary. I get Social Security but since I wasn't 65, it didn't apply to me.

As of May 2026, President Donald Trump has signed legislation that provides tax relief for seniors and tipped workers, following through on his campaign promises, although the implemented policies differ from the initial proposal of an outright elimination of taxes.
The measures were included in "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill" (OBBBA), which was signed into law in July 2025 and is effective for the 2025–2028 tax years. [1, 2]

Social Security Tax Changes (2026 Status)
  • No Outright Repeal: Contrary to the campaign promise to fully eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits, the enacted law does not remove the tax entirely.
  • $6,000 Senior Deduction: Instead, the law provides an additional $6,000 tax deduction for seniors aged 65 and older ($12,000 for married couples filing jointly).
  • Impact: The White House estimates that this deduction allows roughly 88% of Social Security recipients to pay zero federal tax on their benefits by reducing their overall taxable income.
  • Eligibility & Duration: The deduction phases out for individuals with a modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 ($150,000 for married couples) and is temporary, set to expire after the 2028 tax year. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Tip Income Tax Changes (2026 Status)
  • Deduction on Tips: The law provides a temporary, dollar-for-dollar deduction for workers in qualifying, traditionally tipped jobs, allowing them to deduct up to $25,000 of their tip income.
  • Eligibility & Duration: This provision applies from January 1, 2025, through 2028 and is available to those with an adjusted gross income under $150,000 (single) or $300,000 (married).
  • Scope: The exemption applies to federal income tax, not payroll taxes (Social Security and Medicare taxes). [1, 2, 3]

Key Context & Economic Impact
  • Trust Fund Concerns: Analysts, including the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), have stated that these tax cuts, particularly removing taxes on Social Security, reduce revenue for the Social Security and Medicare trust funds, potentially advancing their insolvency dates.
  • Temporary Measures: These tax changes are not permanent and are scheduled to sunset after 2028.
  • Other Tax Changes: The legislation also includes "no tax on overtime" provisions and permanent extensions of previous 2017 tax cuts, contributing to a projected increase in the national deficit
