North Korea expressed “will” to denuclearize if security guaranteed: Seoul - NK News - North Korea News
North Korean officials during meetings with South Koreans over the last two days expressed their “will” to denuclearize if the DPRK’s security is guaranteed, Seoul announced on Tuesday.

In a statement following the return of a high-level ROK delegation to Seoul, South Korea’s chief envoy to the talks said Pyongyang would freeze nuclear and missile tests “while dialogue continues,” and has agreed to a third summit at the Peace House in Panmunjom in late April.

The two Koreas will also establish a hotline between their two leaders in the near future, and the two are set to hold a phone call ahead of meeting next month.

The meeting between DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will be the first between leaders of the two Koreas since 2007 and the third in history.

“The North clarified its will to denuclearize the Korean peninsula, and made it clear that there is no reason to possess nuclear weapons if the security of the North Korean regime is guaranteed,” South Korea’s chief envoy to the talks Chung Eui-yong said.
Problem is it starts the precedence to giving welfare to any country who threatens to build a nuke.

Better than Obama giving away money on the condition of building nukes.

Think we can successful fix third world countries by giving them our excess corn, wheat, and dairy that we are subsidizing our farmers to dump?

We make the promise and then let things progress as they progress. Regime change will come as people gain more freedom when and if they're ready for it.

What we did to Cuba was wrong. It kept their way of life the way it was. If we had allowed them to enjoy the gifts of freedom, of tourism, of food and medical aid back when Kennedy was in power, instead of stifling them things would be better off there today and perhaps today their people would be ready for actual self determination, or Democracy.
By sanctioning them we harmed the ones who could've made things better.

So you expect a guy to accept a deal which may end up with regime change? As in, HIS REGIME changes and he gets executed for it?

A massive, massive difference.

South Korea had been the US's allies during WW2 and the Korean War. There were no dictators who'd lose their head from change.

I'm simply hoping some good comes out of this. Maybe tensions cool and NK becomes more open to the ways of the rest of the world and their citizens gain more freedom.

I doubt they are going to "denuclearize". That ship has already sailed, they have nukes. They may continue to destroy some of their sites as a show of good faith and that isn't a bad thing if it truly hinders their capability.

It's really hard to not expect them to go back to their old ways with the flip of a hat after gaining some concessions for something they need as that is what they have done for years now.

What would be the point of answering your question when you'll just twist it to mean what you want it to mean in it's worst connotation possible. What is the point of discussing anything with you when you're only interested in failure and what would hurt either Trump or the Republican party. You don't care about the truth, you only care about getting your next nominee into office.

Except the North Koreans have been doing that since the 1990's. They act belligerent, the rest of the world gives them a binky in aid so they calm down... and they make some concessions they don't live up to.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Trump has fallen for the same scam, one more time.

No, I think this is different.
I think Kim wants the luxuries of being a leader while he's still young enough to enjoy them.
Those who claim it's better to be king of the hill of a shit pile than to be a peon in a mountain are idiots. It's a shit pile!

Trump: Troop withdrawal from South Korea 'not on the table'"

Though it's funny because Trump has threatened to withdraw troops from South Korea if he doesn't get a better deal, but won't pull troops out when he's dealing with North Korea.

That's Trump. But when it comes to China, Trump must know that if he pulls out of South Korea, he'll weaken his position against China, and he won't do that.

We know that Kim got annoyed because someone in the US govt brought up Libya. Then all of a sudden he's friendly again.

One minute hates the US, next minute smiles. But he's angry at the US because they've suggested he gets rid of his nukes, then the US can take over.

Do you think he's stupid?

One minute hates the US, next minute smiles. But he's angry at the US because they've suggested he gets rid of his nukes, then the US can take over.

Do you think he's stupid?
I think he blew up his nuclear arsenal and is forced into making a deal.

NK News - Wikipedia

"NK News is an American subscription-based website that provides news and analysis about North Korea. Established in 2011, it is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea with reporters in Washington, DC and London.[1] Reporting is based on information collected from in-country sources, recently returned western visitors to North Korea, stories filed by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), interviews with defectors, and reports published by NGOs and western governments. The site's founder and Managing Director is Chad O'Carroll, who has written on North Korea and North Korea issues for The Telegraph.[2][3]"

The source is a private American company that has nothing to do with North Korea.

Yes, other countries will use nukes as a tool to get aid.

But also, how is the US going to guarantee North Korea's security?

Presidential elections every 4 years suggest that North Korea is suggesting things that appear sensible, but are in reality completely unachievable.

Why would anyone in their right mind accept such a deal?

What the US did in Cuba was wrong. What the US did in Iraq was wrong. What the US does all over the world is usually wrong.

Why would the US be right this time?

Trump isn't doing this for the good of North Korea, nor for anyone else, he's doing it to make himself look good.

Worst connotation?

I'm point out the blatantly obvious.

We don't know much. But what we do know is what has already been said.

Trump: Troop withdrawal from South Korea 'not on the table'

"

You think?

Why would you think that?

Do you know what happens when people blow up their nuclear arsenals? You can see it from space.
