I have told fellow conservatives time and again how it makes them look no better than unhinged Leftists.

They take a few teachers in Berkeley, CA or Brooklyn NY and extrapolate that to imagine that the 2nd grade teacher in Somewhere, South Dakota teaches Sunday School but goes to work to "groom" the children. Etc.

If they truly believe this they're beyond stupid, but I suspect they're not that stupid. Just disingenuous.

Sorry to tell you, I'm a free thinker. Philosophically I'm a traditional "liberal" before Leftists hacked it. Civil liberties, free market, small, local government. That's the basis of my political stance, and sometimes conservatives veer from it.

If we keep firing useless overpaid bureaucrats there'd be plenty of money for it too

If we had more male teachers at the elementary level this entire disaster of Social Emotional Learning and "all behavior is communication" would end. Some behavior is communication. A lot of behavior is boys just trying to make their friends laugh, which is fine at time, but not all the time.

Instead we have "therapized" childhood. It's ridiculous.

I want to clarify because I said "a lot of behavior is boys..." and that statement is too blunt. As in adult males, misbehavior in boys is often more overt....you can see this in the prison system where the vast majority of inmates are men.

When women misbehave it's often not as obvious but definitely toxic. For example you don't go to prison for being a malignant narcissist but you will ruin the lives around you nonetheless. Misbehavior in women/girls is often subtler, but can be devastating.

Obviously these are generalities but I have observed that it tracks.

The key to a good teacher is personality, not a degree, so most teachers are toxic.

I was at a high school before COVID.

I corrected a teacher that did not know a kilometer from a meter.

I think part of our problem is memorizing versus understanding. Students memorize things long enough to pass a test. Then months or years later they do not have a clue.

That is true now but was not true in the 1980s. The Education Department is the smallest in the executive branch. Its main purpose when I was teaching was special education and Title 1 funding for reading programs for poor children in substandard schools. It wasn't until the early 2000s with NCLB that it wandered off the reservation.
