Thos kings were dictators but their powers were reduced by the state don't know anything about Sweden, but the King had to lose his head in the UK for things to get more tidy. Same for France. Germany lost their king after WWI, as did Russia. Spain had the Spanish Civil War, then its internal guerilla war.
