Mass. to require all new cars sold to be electric by 2035 as part of climate-change measures

Governor Charlie Baker’s administration on Wednesday released a plan that will require the state to dramatically cut greenhouse-gas emissions in the next decade and beyond through a raft of changes, including by mandating that all new cars sold in the state be electric by 2035.

Among the changes the state plans over the next decade: retrofitting 1 million homes to use electricity for heating instead of gas and oil, cutting commuters’ driving miles by 15 percent, and dramatically increasing offshore wind power generation.

The state’s new legally binding commitment to reduce the state’s carbon emissions to 45 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 is among the most ambitious of such pledges by governments in the United States and the rest of the world. Achieving that milestone would put the state on track to reach “net zero” fossil-fuel emissions by 2050, a goal announced this year by Baker’s administration.

“The people of Massachusetts are experiencing record droughts, increased risk of wildfire, severe weather, and flooding in our coastal communities,” Baker said in a news release. “The costly impacts of climate change are on display in the Commonwealth, making it critical that we take action.”

Evolution....of the automobile and energy industries. You can't stop it. That's the way things are headed by design. And this is a Republican governor. :)

And forcing everyone in the state to drive electric vehicles is going to fix all that?

How stupid are Democrats?
Actually it doesn’t appear like anyone is being forced to drive any kind of car, this just affects cars sold in Mass, in 15 years.
Maybe take a deep breathe and worry about what your state government is up to and be thankful that we live in a country where we get to choose which “laboratory of democracy“ we reside in.

There is no doubt that Massachusetts is a Communist state. It has been one for a long time. That is not even open for debate. Just look at those asshole Senators and dingbat Representatives. They are trying to emulate the failed policies of Communist Kailfornia.

When they filthy ass government tries to dictate technology for stupid political reasons it will be an economic disaster. Just look at the rolling blackouts in Kalifornia as an example. Or the highest cost of gas in the country. Or the high taxation or the fact that other Liberal polices have turn what was once the Golden State under Conservative rule to a state with the worst poverty, worst schools and the most debt.

Massachusetts: "Hold my beer".

How do they plan on getting the low income people to buy a 60k electric vehicle? Or will they allow golf carts?
At least now they can get a cheaper older vehicle.

Golf carts that can do 70?? Hmmm, probably need NASCAR level protective gear for that.
Or, it may be that by that time, electric cars will be cheaper to produce.

What high taxation? Maybe on you and me but % wise not on the wealthy or corporations. Hence our overly large budget deficits and debt. And you might want to do a little research on California's need for rolling blackouts. The issues go back decades.

Do you think those stupid Environmental Wackos understand things like that? Do you think they even care?
Natural gas is one of the cleanest fuels on the planet. Whatever they use at the power plant to generate the electricity to run the appliances and to charge the electric cars will be worse.

The above quote is from another thread ... I generally don't like cross-threading, but the other thread was closed ... hopefully this post will be seemless ...

Natural gas can be one of the cleanest fossil fuels ... but that doesn't automatically mean it's being extracted in a clean way all the time, nor stored in a clean way ... THAT'S the cleanest source of energy ...

My electricity comes from sparkling clean mountain fresh spring water ... the stuff going down the penstocks is cleaner than bottled water you buy at your grocery store ... and the same water is run through a half dozen hydro-turbines, or more ... then we let it run out into the Pacific Ocean so we can laugh at Los Angeles ...

I pay 6.3¢ per kW-hr ... much cheaper than natural gas ... it's a no brainer which we should be exploiting here ... natural gas can blow up your home, with you inside ...

Proposition 5 was passed in the late 1970's if I remember correctly ...

So your idea to fix things is to tax more? LOL! Typical dumbass Libtard!

By the way Moon Bat, I know you are ignorant of Economics and Marx told you to hate corporations but corporations really don't really pay taxes. Every cent that is given to the filthy government by corporations comes from the sales of goods and services. It is a tax on the consumers.

Kalifornia have fucked up like Hogan's Goat because the dumbshits let all those shithead Illegals flood in and go on welfare and joined with the Hippies and Hollywood and Silicon Valley Limosine Liberals and they voted in asshole Democrats to keep the welfare checks coming. Meanwhile the Democrats have been crazy in other areas like stupid Environmental Wacko laws. Hell, if you build a new home there you have to spend an additional $40K to put in stupid inefficient solar collectors. how dumb is that?

Kalifornia has the worst schools, the most homeless, the highest rents, the most poverty, the worst energy distribution system and the highest taxes. That is what you get with Democrats.

Looks like those Moon Bats in Mass are trying to emulate failure.
