In a Republic, actually
‘Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who is facing backlash over her response to a question about the Civil War at a New Hampshire campaign event, alleged without evidence Thursday that that the questioner was potentially a Democratic "plant."’

It was a perfectly legitimate question to ask Haley, regardless of the politics of the person asking the question.

It’s also telling that Haley would perceive acknowledging the fact that the South started the war to preserve slavery as a political ‘gotcha.’

Republicans are nuts. They explain everything away by claiming some grand conspiracy. Like children.

She just should have had a better answer. Not as smart as on the debate stage, with a good idea of what the questions will be, is she?

That answer's gonna go over like a lead balloon. Seeing as people are just finally starting to warm up to her as a possible Trump alternative, she sounds like she's descending into conspiracy theories to explain her screw up.
Oh well, Trump it is. :)

Lets hear what South Carolina had to say about their reasons for leaving..

The State of South Carolina having resumed her separate and equal place among nations, deems it due to herself, to the remaining United States of America, and to the nations of the world, that she should declare the immediate causes which have led to this act….

[A]n increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery, has led to a disregard of their obligations, and the laws of the General Government have ceased to effect the objects of the Constitution

I supported Haley in 2016. Then I learned she had even less principles than the average politician.
I have not seen such a "say anything" politician at this level since Bill Clinton got himself elected.

It's hilarious watching your type wriggle and writhe trying to detach yourselves from the slavery detail.
Are you saying that slavery was not the law of the land in those states that had not abolished it?

Four Slave States Stay in the Union

Despite their acceptance of slavery, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri did not join the Confederacy. Although divided in their loyalties, a combination of political maneuvering and Union military pressure kept these states from seceding.

Every state that left the union did so to protect slavery
