Emphasizing that California must stay at the forefront of the fight against climate change, Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday issued an executive order to restrict new car sales in the state to only zero-emission vehicles by 2035 and threw his support behind a ban on the controversial use of hydraulic fracturing by oil companies. Any questions as to what Democrats want to do?

We need infrastructure upgrade now to also stimulate our economy!
You know as well as I do, Democrats will say they're for infrastructure upgrades. They'll raise our taxes through the roof and absolutely nothing will change. Although a number of those companies that were suppose to "stimulate the economy" will leave.
It was Republicans who had nothing but Repeal for all of those shovel ready jobs that would have had a more positive impact on our economy. Right wingers only love to complain about how weak the recover was when the "black guy" was in office.
You mean those shovel ready positions that Obama conceded weren't there? Those jobs?
Yes, those jobs that weren't there because the republicans refused to move forward on them. Those jobs.
Sorry, lie.

Second, Obama promised the stimulus would not only have a large impact but also an immediate impact. Said the president-elect, "I'm confident ... our 21st century investments will create jobs immediately," adding, "We've got shovel-ready projects all across the country."
Those jobs never materialized, and it was not for lack of workers—or shovels. As President Obama remarked in June 2011, "Shovel-ready was not as shovel-ready as we expected." He chuckled through the mea culpa, but it's no laughing matter. Obama failed to deliver—and at great cost to taxpayers

That is only part of the story.

The politics around the stimulus was very contentious. On the right, it spurred the Tea Party movement and may have contributed to Republicans winning the House in the 2010 midterms.[4][5][6] Not a single Republican member of the House voted for the stimulus.[7] Only three Republican Senators voted for it.[8] On the left, there were criticisms that the stimulus was watered down and did not do enough.[9] Economist Paul Krugman argued that the stimulus was far smaller than the economic crisis warranted.[5]

...

Senate Republicans forced a near unprecedented level of changes (near $150 billion) in the House bill, which had more closely followed the Obama plan. A comparison of the $827 billion economic recovery plan drafted by Senate Democrats with an $820 billion version passed by the House and the final $787 billion conference version shows huge shifts within these similar totals. Additional debt costs would add about $350 billion or more over 10 years. Many provisions were set to expire in two years.[23]

The main funding differences between the Senate bill and the House bill were: More funds for health care in the Senate ($153.3 vs $140 billion), renewable energy programs ($74 vs. $39.4 billion), for home buyers tax credit ($35.5 vs. $2.6 billion), new payments to the elderly and a one-year increase in AMT limits. The House had more funds appropriated for education ($143 vs. $119.1 billion), infrastructure ($90.4 vs. $62 billion) and for aid to low income workers and the unemployed ($71.5 vs. $66.5 billion).
[22]

Is it any wonder the right wing derided the weak recovery so soon. It was practically their only argument for a while; besides trying repeal the "black guy's" healthcare initiative which would have also increased the positive multiplier effect from that sector.

And,

Ed Rendell, the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania and a fierce advocate for the infrastructure spending in the stimulus bill, called the president’s recent comments “a definitional” issue. He said “shovel ready” always meant that projects were ready to begin the sometimes long process of public bidding by contractors.

“When the president says there’s no such thing as ‘shovel ready,’ he’s right. We’re all locked into low responsible bidding,” Mr. Rendell said. “When we said ‘shovel ready’ we meant ‘shovel ready’ in the way we do things. I don’t think we meant to be deceptive.”

But Mr. Rendell quickly added: “If you are talking about stimulating the economy, ‘shovel ready’ doesn’t mean get the money on Monday and start on Tuesday. But tell me something where people get hired to do work at well-paying jobs faster?”

Is it any wonder why right wingers were so willing to give their guy the credit for continuing upward trends initiated by the previous administration.

Maybe Gavan should have thought about that before he killed his economy
States can't print their own money and right wing tax cut economics ensures we never have enough money. Why do right wing allege to "hate the nanny-State" but love our nanny-State alleged wars on crime, drugs, and terror?
Its always about the endless increases in programs. Never ending. Hidden taxes that strangles the common citizen who tries to be civil and follow the rules while others play the "system" with no conscience and survive through stealing from others.
I blame the right wing for their nanny-Statism while alleging they are not really like that in socialism threads.
Californa is a nanny state moron
Having nothing but ad hominems is even more, moronic.
Moron if you believe me calling Californa a nanny state was an ad hominem well moron you don't know what a nanny state is

nanny state
noun [ C ]
mainly UK disapproving

UK

/ˌnæn.i ˈsteɪt/ US

/ˌnæn.i ˈsteɪt/

a government that tries to give too much advice or make too many laws about how people should live their lives, especially about eating, smoking, or drinking alcohol:
The government was accused of trying to create a nanny state when it announced new guidelines on healthy eating.
Abolish our useless nanny-State alleged wars on crime, drugs, and terror, right wingers. We don't need your nanny-State socialism on a national or international basis. We have a common Defense clause not a common Offense clause nor a general warfare clause. All of that money could have been going to upgrade infrastructure the whole time.

He doesn't have that authority. Period.

Even California is not a dictatorship; it's a hybrid republic/democracy.

There are two ways in which valid laws are made in this state. Neither of them involves a unilateral order from the Governor, nor any other individual.

This order has no legal force, and will surely be struck down the very first time that it is challenged in court.
There's no telling what sleazy methods these politicians will use to implement their plan. Newsom will be long gone by 2035, although Californians were stupid enough to re-elect Jerry Brown. Anyway, they sure could kill business licenses for gas stations, raise the gas taxes through the roof, tax mileage driven....they're a fricken creative bunch.

Hellbent on destroying the economy of California

yep, watch the California exodus grow larger. That may be a good thing in that though many millions of conservatives reside here, our votes are pretty much null when it comes to the larger elections. Conservatives leaving here will help shore up the vote in other states like AZ, Texas and Nevada where the margins are closer. By 2035 I'll probably be joining the exodus myself though I still really like this state a lot.
The moving van will be at my place in the morning...and my dog and I will be driving to my new place in AZ....goodbye CA....enjoy your ruination.....
What's insane are all the Democrat Californians who are leaving for the same reason, then go to places like Arizona and Nevada and are turning them blue voting for the same shit they voted for that destroyed California.

Democrats have no ability to learn from the past. If they did, they wouldn't be Democrats

Good for Gov. Newsom; it's too bad the author of this post is fear mongering; mocking an issue which is one of the top challenges facing the earth and humanity today.
What is your solution? Since there isn't one available yet.

I love these asshole politicians who can't figure out what to do this week but they're full of ideas about what we should get done by 2035. With someone like him is in charge, this world won't even be around by then. Recall. MAGA
All they want to do is create tax loopholes large enough to drive a yacht through.

Yep. They have brown outs due to their environmental wacko extremist policies and he wants to bring that fun to cars! How delightful ...
What do you think of bonds to upgrade infrastructure? Giving the Richest something to invest in our States or the US is preferable to them finding tax havens overseas.

Let’s see. The low income people living in apartments will have no place to charge their vehicles that they had to buy at twice the cost of a gas vehicle.

Why do the Left hate the poor?
Upgrade infrastructure to help stimulate our economy!
California Democrats can’t even supply water and electricity.
Right wing Tax Cut economics means there is never enough money to go around.

In June 2009 Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said "Our wallet is empty, our bank is closed and our credit is dried up."[12] He called for massive budget cuts of $24 billion, about 1⁄4 of the state's budget.[12] [13]--https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_state_finances

California only relatively recently had budget surpluses.

For more than six years, through two governors and hundreds of lawmakers’ votes, California’s state government slowly built the largest cash reserve in its history — projected to total $21 billion by next summer.

But there are growing fears that the fast-moving crisis sparked by the coronavirus pandemic could force it to be spent in a matter of months.

What does Democrats wanting 100% of everyone’s earnings have to do with Democrats making poor people lose their ability to freely move about?

California Democrats can’t even supply drinking water, electricity, roads to its citizens, or even manage their wild lands so everything just burns.

The Green New Deal. We've done our part, we've put solar panels on our roof, drive a Chevy Bolt (all electric) & a RAV 4 hybrid, the latter to soon be replaced by the Ford Escape, PHEV; own an e-bike, have a well to irrigate our garden (pump is also solar); we compost and use it to grow veggies organically; and try to avoid plastics.

You do things that make you feel self righteous while opposing the things that would make a difference. Nuclear power and fracking for natural gas.

Leftist policies are about feeling smug and superior over making a difference

"Leftist policies"? Your biases are so full of shit it stinks over the internet. Climate Change is real, it's not a hoax like you've been directed to believe by the polluters and Dumb Donald; those who put profit and power over reality and our planet.

BTW, I support New Generation Nuclear Power, along with Solar, Wind and hydroelectric energy producers. Coal is dirty, there is no such thing as clean coal and facking also puts pollutants in the environement.

That is great but does Gavin understand the cost of those cars and the damage it does to the environment to build those cars especially to Africa?

Yup. He doesn't care.

You don't believe in climate change. You think it's a bunch of crap. There are two things we could do today that would have a huge impact on carbon emissions without harming our economy and you oppose both of them. Then you go avoid plastics which is irrelevant to the environment. We have endless landfill now. The US is a tiny percentage of plastic in the ocean and I assume like me you don't dump your plastic in the local waterway to flow to the ocean.

Your argument against fracking is it's not perfect.

rye: OMG, the oceans will boil! Cities will drown! We're all gonna die!

Can we do fracking and nuclear and reverse that?

rye: Nope, not perfect.

Cool. I like perfect. So what's the perfect solution?

rye: { silence }
