Here’s the thing. “Deny defend depose” is a skimming operation. It’s not going to work with huge claims or people who are in life-or-death situations. Because those people will put up the most fight. Deny defend depose targets people who will just go ahead and pay a small bill rather than spending the time protesting it. I’m not defending the practice, just adding some missing context.

The words on the bullet were Delay, Deny, Defend. It is the name of a book that exposes and examines insurance company policies that deny claims. First they delay payment, then they deny the claim. Then they defend the denial in court. The purpose is to avoid paying until the claimant dies or goes bankrupt paying lawyers.
