New York Yankees 27 World Series Championships

Up until the early days of free agency, the Yankees' success was entirely a matter of money. And the financial advantage continues to this day, with local radio and TV revenue that dwarfs every other franchise before the national and league revenue even kicks in. When a player became available, if the Yankees wanted him, they got him. Period. Recall how they got Babe Ruth. It wasn't even a trade. They just bought him because the owner of the Red Sox was hard up for money. Later, they NEVER lost a player that they wanted to keep. In all sane franchises, even a good player will be let go because the market value gets so high that it becomes economically stupid to keep him. That NEVER happens with the Yankees. If they want to keep a player they keep him, and pay whatever is necessary to make that happen.

Over the past thirty years, how many times has there been one big free agent that everybody wanted? They invariably go to the Yankees, whether it's Alex Rodriguez, Reggie Jackson, Gerrit Cole, CC Sabathia, Aroldis Chapman...the list is endless.

In fact, you might even ask why they haven't won MORE championships in the Free Agent era. They are like the rich kid who drives the nicest car. So what?
