Some Iranians already attacked the US, Fred - back in 1979. An embassy is considered territory of the nation it represents. And attacking one has indeed been a causus belli in the past - so has holding diplomatic personnel hostage.

That was Iranian students, not the Iranian government.
As with many things, the students must have had at least the support of the government but, when you consider what America did to the democratically elected government of the past, you don't have a lot to cry about.
They took hostages on American soil but you removed the legitimate government in their country.
Basically, America got the '**** off tablet' it well deserved.

Invasions are no longer necessary. Ever since the Islamic revolution about 32 years ago, Iran has been the number one exporter of terror, death, radicalization, and mayhem throughout the Middle East and the entire world. It's record speaks for itself. Many American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have been directly killed by Iranian mercenaries, if not weapons supplied by Iran. Most of the IED's in Iraq were supplied by Iran. Iran is also responsible for the bombing of the marine barracks in Beirut (which killed 250 US marines on a peace keeping mission) and the Khobar towers in Saudi Arabia. Facts are stubborn things.

The American hostages eventually were under the control and supervision of the Iranian government! and US govt was negotiating with the Iranian govt for their release.
