Whatever - it exists not really any need to speak about this. Germany never had been really a colonial power. We simply had very close cultural ties with England. And that rubbed off a little on Germany at the end of the 19th century - specially because of the Prussians. No idea how often the British national anthem had been the Prussian national anthem.
