NASA predicts Megadroughts

I am trying to convince our elected representatives that we have a Commerce Clause and not any form of war on drugs clause, and to use those funds to advance fusion (an energy with a future), so that California can be at the fore-front of helping ameliorate global sea level rising and any mega-droughts on our future event horizon.

It is what income transfers should be good for in modern times.

Why fusion? Why not fairy dust?

After all, cold fusion is just as realistic as fairy dust at this point.
Simply because it is fusion (an energy with a future so bright, we all have to wear shades).
I don't know, I'd go with the fairy dust. It has many more uses.
It has more uses than capitalism going to the moon on a for-profit basis.

IF cold fusion is ever developed, it with be Capitalism that does so.
Dumb fuck, it was not private enterprise that gave us the present nukes. Not private enterprise that built the great hydro-electric system that has served this nation so well. Not private enterprise that delivered electricity to the rural areas in this nation. It was not private enterprise that funded the Corp of Discovery, or the transcontinental railroad.

Private enterprise didn't invent nuclear weapons, but it did build all the nuclear power plants that supply power to communities.

Private enterprise can't build a damn because it doesn't have the power of eminent domain, and all the land flooded by a reservoir has to be confiscated.

Who cares if Lewis and Clark explored the Louisiana territory? How did that benefit the taxpayers?

The transcontinental railroads were huge boondoggles rife with graft and corruption. The Credit Mobilier scandal was a direct result of the federal government's involvement in building the transcontinental railroads. All the railroads involved went bankrupt because the tracks were so shoddily built and poorly laid out. Rather than plot the most efficient course, the railroads chose the path which went through the district of as many members of Congress as possible. This not only increased the number of miles the government subsidized, it curried favor with powerful members of Congress. I suppose that's the benefit of eliminating the profit motive from American industry: graft, corruption, bribery, scandal, huge cost increases and bankruptcy. Hmmmm . . . that sounds familiar, like a recent mortgage scandal we just endured.

Private enterprise provides all the electricity to rural areas in this country. However, the federal government subsidizes this enormous boondoggle. If people want to live in rural areas, they can pay the true cost of electricity rather than forcing families living in the ghetto to subsidize their lifestyle.

sure; like capitalism already took us to the moon and back on a not-for-profit basis like socialism did, last millennium.

I believe you're a bot that simply repeats pat phrases without any attempt to respond to the post you're replying to.

Advancing fusion (an energy with a very bright future), could solve several energy related dilemmas at the same time. Fusion facilities could be placed more securely, underground, along with the state-of-the-art Infrastructure to support it. Why shouldn't the physical layer of (Post) Infrastructure, be ensured by the public sector to fulfill our public sector sector requirement, of ensuring (a republican form of) Government.

In any Case, we have Standards, fixed by elected representatives, assembled, regarding Infrastructure maintenance--there is no excuse for not funding Infrastructure since it can be so necessary and so proper; not Only for the general Welfare but also for the common Defense.

You don't argue. You regurgitate stuff you've read on DailyKOS and ThinkProgress. You couldn't recognize a syllogism if someone slapped you in the face with one.

Once the atomic fusion reaction is sustainable, controllable, and technology available fusion based energy will transform the world.

Which is why the federal government should quit wasting money on "renewables" and divert all energy funding to fusion research. If the budget was 10 times bigger, fusion could reach the commercial stage within less than a decade - no question.

dude, y'all, literally, have nothing but fallacy for your Cause. and, not Only that, y'all are also, literally, incredible, as a result. :p

You don't know the meaning of "fallacy." Your a babbling idiot spewing one stupid slogan after another.

NASA could never make it to the moon today. The pilots would never trust the NASA scientists. Once you get caught lying in that business, it is all over.
dude, command economics could fix autopilot as a Standard for well regulated Commerce in space.

Command economics has been a failure every time it has been tried.
don't you get tired of appealing to ignorance? socialism already took us to the moon and back, last millennium.

Private companies built the Saturn V, numskull, not the government.

sorry about that; i though you had some clue and some Cause.

don't you get tired of appealing to ignorance? (the command economics of) socialism already took us to the moon and back, last millennium. capitalism has yet to discover a profit motive now.

Another stinking pile of imbecile slogans.

While alternative energies have been commercially feasible for years and need nothing more than a few tax breaks and investment incentives to keep growing at record rates.

Nevertheless, the government spends tens of billions of dollars every year on "alternative energy." the money would be better spent on fusion research.

It should be doable in eight years or less, as was the case for fission due to the social, command economics of our Manhattan Project.

I don't buy the argument that technology has not advanced enough to make fusion practical; it is a simple funding issue; we really can be solving this issue by merely, "command economizing", money at it.

But the market will have the renewables in place much sooner. As wind is already cheaper than dirty coal, and solar will be before President Obama passes the baton to the next President. And the states that are jumping on the bandwagon with their utilities spending and installing the most wind and solar are those bastions of liberal thought, Texas and Oklahoma.
