Name calling is killing honest political debate.

I enjoy debating without overt name calling and emotional responses. I try to support and take down arguments with links. I do love me some passive underhanded jabs like a fat kid loves cake.

I do not think the debate is just a two-sided equation. I am not a huge Trump fan but voted for him three times. He is the enemy of my enemy.

I could help Trump with messaging. IM me here if your watching.

This place can also raise my blood pressure.

Thanks. But I should've made this more clear, that question was directed to the extreme tribal types who believe that the other side is evil scum and completely hopeless.

I agree with what you said about enjoying true debate, without name-calling or emotional responses... and this place raising one's blood pressure.

Pretty much. I won’t reply to messages that are too much into the name calling and random insults. There is no use in engaging in that kind of behavior.
It is a waste of time for me and I have other interests to get to. It also inserts into a happy disposition ( most of the time ) a darkness I don't want or need. When I am reading a thread that starts out interestingly but then begins devolving into a cesspool, I am out of there and the whole site at least for that day. That's the one positive thing about negative threads: they don't keep me around much. I won't let garbage in. Off to positive things.

Speaking of which----"Happy Sunday" to all posters here. Really, at heart they/we are all good people in many ways. I don't leave each day because of any member, rather the rhetoric they may be engaged in.

Granted, there are folks here who get satisfaction out of causing others' hypertension.

I'm a decent person who believes in democracy....and you are not. And it is literally that simple.
No, you want to be a hater so you are.

Righties are decent people, too, but you're incapable of seeing that. I heard Mike Rowe say the other day,"my right wing friends think my left wing friends are misguided, my left wing friends think my right wing friends are evil."

About sums it up. You people have a terminal case of a superiority complex. It's attached to TDS, too.

Most people are decent people, regardless of left or right.

The problem is that one particular group of the most radical of leftists have taken over the discourse of Democrats and "not Democrats." Those radical leftists take positions that would not last more than a few exchanges of honest debate.

Just as a single example, a "right-wing extremist" might say:

"Children's minds are not developed enough to make decisions about what to have for lunch, much less decide what gender they are and what medical treatments they should get if their gender does not match their bodies. Therefore it is wrong for profit-seeking doctors to inject them with hormones to stop their puberties in preparation to make them more closely resemble the opposite sex after surgery to remove their healthy genitals and secondary sex organs."

There is no logical refutation of that claim, so the Democrat or "not Democrat" falls back on:

"Stop bullying children, you Fascist!"

But sometimes the egg comes before the chicken. For example, there is an argument to be made for TANF benefits. Children need to be fed, or they have no chance of getting out of the poverty that led their parents to apply for those benefits. Here, the typical leftie poster has been instructed through example by their media mentors that insults are the first go-to. Rather than explain how TANF might benefit taxpayers as well as the recipients, they simply say:

"You want to starve children, you MAGAt!"

People on the right tend to want honest debate, while people on the left do not.
Here's a perfect example:

Jayapal (D) gives a lengthy, logic-free ad hominem attack on Representatives who want to ban transgenderizing children by putting an ammendment to the law banning Female Genital Mutilation. Her only salient point: transgenderizing children keeps them from killing themselves.

Then Hageman (R) gives a fact-filled analysis of the one study that purported to show a decrease in suicidal ideation (not suicide) among children who got such "treatment." It was deeply flawed for multiple reasons that Hageman laid out.

Jayapal's response - while Hageman was speaking - was to interrupt with the condescending question "do you know what Female Genital Mutilation is?" That is a very typical way they try to derail debate.

That's why I would never argue with a leftie IRL. They just interrupt and yell. On here, they cannot do that.

That's more a sign of my lack of faith in that poster sir, not me playing favorites.
/---/ I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but in my experience, I find demands for civility come from the Left in the same breath as they call us every name in the book.

Civility means the most when it’s hardest. That’s the test. It’s not about the other person. It’s about you, and whether or not you'll allow other people to drag you down with them.
