So now we understand that the NCAA can no longer prohibit schools from PAYING varsity, scholarship athletes for the profitable use of their names, images, and likenesses.

The conclusion drawn by most is that the Big Schools will not start inducing players to come to them by promising money as well as scholarships.

But what if a couple of the Big Schools (e.g., NotreDame) said, in effect, "We reject this" operating scenario, and at OUR school, the would-be scholarship athletes will be told that the free tuition (etc) is the end of it. That's all you will get if you come here.

Nothing preventing them from doing that.

Would that be deemed "racist" by the Progs, since only recruits from "prosperous/white" families would tend to want to go to those schools?

They're going to get super rich anyways and let them start in college to build their portfolio.

It is probably to late to make college sports secondary to getting an education like it used to be.

The quarterback and receiver already have intimate knowledge of the Coriolis Effect, college is secondary.

Notre Dame can try that.

But if schools like Alabama, Clemson, USC allow their athletes to get paid for endorsements, let ND compete with them for top HS athletes

Show a HS star what your top players are making in endorsements and then ask him why he wants to go to ND.

The reality is that only a small percentage of College athletes will get national endorsements and make the big bucks.

Most will get offers from a local pizza parlor or car dealership. Extra pocket money.

Oh, I think you're being incredibly naive. Just using OSU as a stand-in for any school where they have the primary school in a

John Q. Alumnus has an investment house in Columbus. OSU wants a star tail back to come play for them. Gee, what do you think JQA is going to do? Offer the tail back $50K a year to endorse the investment house....the tail back being the authority that he is. You'll have people transferring from schools that don't pay well to paying schools.... You'll have OSU stockpiling talent to just weaken the opposition. The gloves are off.

I agree

I was talking about legitimate endorsements. But, yes, this opens the door for paying athletes. While recruiting, a deep pockets alumni offers a four year Endorsement contract at $50 k a year.

The rich schools will get richer

There are still limits on how many athletes can travel with or dress out for a game.

And a school with rich alumni can get some blue chip players. But most will go where they have the best opportunities. That does not change.

Clearly those limits have resulted in removing money from college sports.

Will this new arms race result in more money in college sports or less? Yes.
Will any of this new money flowing into public universities result in a lower tuition? No.

Their football program would implode in a year.

Allowing college athletes to profit off their NIL will only affect a small percentage of college athletes

Athletes who already have a big payday in their future
