My view of the United States Constitution

If the State you live in wants to tax the shit out of you to provide free abortions that's on you. I do not want my tax money used for a hideous method of birth control.
i would rather the government tax me for an occasional abortion than for supporting lifetimes of crime, prison, and welfare.

10th Amendment applies. The Federal Government has no business being involved with anything not mandated to it by the Constitution

We will need to agree to disagree on that. I will let the voters decide what the Federal Government should be involved in.

We are a Republic we don't vote on Federal legislation we have representatives for that . Abortion is a 10th Amendment issue. As I stated if you want your state to tax the shit out of you to support bad lifestyle choices that's on you.

The United States is a representative democracy. I do not see the Constitution as a list of prohibitions on the government. I see the Constitution as a guidebook on how to operate a representative democracy. The electorate is sovereign. I trust the voters more than the Supreme Court.

I want every aspect of the US government to become more democratic. I want to end the Electoral College. I question the value of the Senate. I want to eliminate the power of money in American elections.

The United States is a representative democracy.
It is a democracy only so far as we vote on our representatives, who then vote on our laws.
Only at the state level, and only occasionally, do the people directly decide what laws we have.
I do not see the Constitution as a list of prohibitions on the government.
The constitution, especially in the bill of rights, specifies any number of limits on the government, federal and state.
I see the Constitution as a guidebook on how to operate a representative democracy.
If by that you mean...
  • A table of organization
  • A list of powers granted to each organization created above
  • A list of limits on same
...then yes.

At the moment.

Then you need to pass a bunch of amendments.
How's that going for you?

Those who claim that the purpose of the United States Constitution is to impose limits on the Federal Government, ignore the reason the Constitutional Convention was called in 1787. It was called because the Articles of Confederation adopted in 1777 had left the Federal Government too weak.

Rights are powers. They are the same thing. That's the problem.

However the 9th allows the feds to take power off themselves and give it to the people, in terms or rights, but powers it does not have are not theirs.
Such an obscene display of ignorance. Do you ever use a dictionary?

You needed to explain why I am supposedly ignorant.

And sometimes dictionaries don't explain things properly. They need to have short definitions.

I have learned what rights are by studying them and talking about them.

Start with the Magna Carta in 1215.

This document took powers from the King and gave them to the Church and to barons.

In the modern era in the US, you have, for example, the freedom of speech. This right, within the Constitution, does not give power, it takes power from the federal govt. The feds may not prevent people from saying what they want (within certain limits like treason). So, power has been taken from the feds. If power has been taken, it then gets transferred elsewhere.

It's all about power.

You say that rights and powers are the same. THAT is ignorance on display.

Rights are power. Power is power. That is the same.

I'm sorry you're incapable of writing an argument for your point.

Hey guy, I'm in favor of abortion. I view it as a race freshening operation. I just do not think the Constitution defends it.

By criteria important to civilization, I am. I have no felony convictions and no illegitimate children. I am reasonably intelligent.
You are in favor of abortion? What kind of sick person talks like that?

Millions of Americans are in favor of abortion. Every teenage girl and every woman who has an abortion is pregnant with a child she does not want to raise. What do you intend to do with all those unwanted children? I do not see anti abortion people lining up to adopt them.

Judaism is the one of the three religions most favorable towards abortion, perv.

Problem is the voters do NOT get to decide. Because there's no real democracy.

People who understand what it what.

You have a religion that says "thou shalt not kill" and yes manage to kill billions of chicken, cows, sheep and god knows what else every year.

You manage to separate one species from another. One which is killed in numbers that make the Holocaust look like nothing....

Really, we're just atoms and the atoms don't die, just move to be a part of something else.

Most people on welfare are unemployable and do not vote. Many are unaware of when there is an election and what the issues are.
Sooooo, if they are not productive, and thus a net drain on society, why should they be able to vote?

thou shall not kill was in regards to humans not animals....

My view of the United States Constitution is literal and minimal. I believe that if the Constitution does not clearly say something, we should assume that the Constitution is silent on the matter and leave it up to the voters.
The Constitution is four pages long.
It was never intended to dictate how a society should operate.
That is why most of the document is centered on setting up a government.

Basically saying…..do what is in the best interests of We the People
