My savior...the gut microbiome. Ever heard of it?

U.S. spends the most but ranks last in health compared with other high-income nations, new report says

Americans, despite spending the most on healthcare, are the sickest and die the youngest compared with nine other high-income nations, according to a new report. The report, released Thursday by independent research group The Commonwealth Fund, found the United States has the worst-performing health care system overall despite spending the most of any nation in the study. Using data from World Health Organization and more since the onset of the pandemic in 2020, the study looked at five key health care measures, including health equity, access to care, care process, administrative efficiency and health outcomes.
Here's how the countries ranked based on overall score:
1. Australia
2. Netherlands
3. United Kingdom
4. New Zealand
5. France
6. Sweden
7. Canada
8. Switzerland
9. Germany
10. United States

"Differences in overall performance between most countries are relatively small, but the only clear outlier is the U.S., where health system performance is dramatically lower," the report states. In addition to ranking last overall, the U.S. also ranked lowest for specific health measures including access to care to health outcomes. Australia and the Netherlands, the two countries with the highest overall rankings, also have the lowest health care spending while the U.S. spends the most among the group. "When it comes to life expectancy and avoidable deaths, the U.S. comes in last," the report's news release noted.

But, all countries have strengths and weaknesses despite their overall rankings. "No country is at the top or bottom on all areas of performance. Even the top-ranked country — Australia — does less well, for example, on measures of access to care and care process. And even the U.S., with the lowest-ranked health system, ranks second in the care process domain," the report states.

Our "diversity" is our strength*, except when it comes to health. Many minorities, especially men, won't see a doctor until it's often too late. Minority women seem to believe it's their destiny to become overweight and diabetic. Black men drink, smoke, and drug themselves to early death, native Americans as well. It seems that those who can least afford illness pull out all the stops to achieve it.

yea white people just take such good care of themselves...

Of course, I'm not an expert on the finer points of the gm, but, from what I understand, it could do well from what it gets used-to, as long as it likes what it is being fed.
there's a lot to read out there Pb, a lot of it borders on what might be considered homeopathic and/or holistic

which is why empirical med gives it little credit

The gut microbiome is my next frontier, I watched a great three part documentary on this on the plane and it has always fascinated me, but before I never knew the gut-brain connection exists, but it does. It is not just your digestive health, it is also your mental health, to say nothing of preventing disease.

Fermentation, it was responsible for the earliest life form on earth over 4 billion years ago before there was oxygen in the atmosphere. Fermented foods are crucial to the microbiome, but instead we feed it processed foods devoid of anything useful.

Start drinking a glass of warm water mixed with apple cider vinegar daily, and then start researching the microbiome. I just ordered a yogurt culture and will be making my own soon to feed the gut.

Nobody "overeats" good food
this guy did....

This is the great 3 part doc. I watched, the black guy who is a cook was my favorite part, he cooked up some delicious looking dishes and inspired me to make my own healthy, sugar free yogurt, it looks so easy to do.

Nope. The point is, you cannot eat enough "God food" to put on weight.

I can eat 2 Nutty Bars and get 1,000 bad calories. Or I can eat a head of broccoli and be stuffed and lose weight
