I had trouble reading the little lines today. The technician told me to put my eyeglasses down and he adjusted my prescription with the contraption I was looking through. I read 20/20. I've had the same prescription since 2012 when they first told me I was approaching time for cataract surgery. I kept putting it off and there is no way I'm buying new glasses if I'm going to throw them away after they put new lenses on my eyeballs. I saw the eye specialist and scheduled the surgery for Sept. 30 right eye, Oct. 21 left eye. I want to ride my bike this summer otherwise I would do it sooner. I'm 77 and I lasted a lot longer than my cycle mates I used to ride with because I always wore sunglasses and some of them did not.

After that I'm having my hernia fixed. It sucks getting old.

My cataract surgery in both eyes added quality to my life. Good on you.

Most Medicare supplement insurance pays for those eyeglasses and will do so again after cataract surgery which 99% of the time substantially improves your vision. I saw better after my cataract surgery than I have my entire life. But if your insurance won't pay for new glasses now, you're probably wise to wait until after the surgery. Good luck. You'll be amazed at how much better the world looks after the surgery. :)

I had Lasik surgery several years back. They told me at the time that when I hit my mid-forties I may still end up needing reading glasses. I'm 41 now and I've been noticing the past several months that it's harder for me to read fine print, like stuff printed on pill bottles or on clothing tags. I've had a few times where I've had to take a picture with my phone and then zoom in, in order to read it. :D

I need to do this too. I’m waiting a couple of years ( if I can) for Medicare to kick in.

Way back in th 90's they said: Ray, you have nice thick corneas. You should get Lasik surgery. I wish Ihad done it.

I just had cataract surgery on right eye, last month, left eye. I was terrified but you know they gave me IV anesthesia (I was awake) and some Versed, twice. I was so relaxed and saw like rainbow colors (I think when they were changing the lens) so for me it was terrifying but when they were doing it, not too bad.

I also had Lasik in 2005 but the vision started declining. Very disappointed in that. It left me with permanent dry eyes.

Now I love my new eyeballs! I can see far away clearly, I can see the tags on the grocery shelf with the barcodes and read tiny numbers. I do seem to have a hard time with tiny print in low light. They said I might a prescription for reading. Fantastic results! I told it reminds of bright LED lighting. You can see much brighter and much clearer.

Good luck with your surgery :)

Hope all goes will for your eye surgery. I had a double hernia fixed 10 years ago. They put in mesh. Walked kinda funny for a week or so.

I got permanent dry eye from my lasic surgery too. And of course insurance doesn’t pay for dry eye meds. Do you have a dry eye treatment recommendation?
Wishing you great eyesight.

Almost everybody comes out of the cataract surgery happily living with their new eyes.

My B-I-L had the opposite experience several months ago. The eye that they fixed will never be right, and he is petrified of getting the other one done, despite assurances of how rare these complications are.

I understand him completely. I probably would live with the Coke-bottle-bottom glasses for the time being.

My mother had cataract surgery a few years ago-worked out well, only needs reading glasses now.

There is no situation in which I would permit anyone near my eyes with a laser. I honestly think I might have a heart attack, considering I need to be sedated for eye drops.

I am on Medicare because of the Dialysis so Medicare pays for Restasis. What kind of insurance do you have? They should pay for that. Its not cheap though, $1,500 for 3 boxes but I don't pay more than $10 for it.

I was supposed to have cataract surgery last year but put it off. I'm going ahead with it this summer, right after I have a bad tooth pulled and an implant procedure started. If it didn't affect my shooting, bow and gun, I wouldn't bother as it isn't really that bad, but I love shooting. It has not gotten worse over a period of several years like happens to others.

The good results expressed here is encouraging. Thanks. :)
