I like riding my bike and going to the gym. I got a virus in 2019 that went to a Strep infection and the Nurse Practitioner I had at the time said she heard something in the lower lobe of my left lung, so she gave me an antibiotic which took care of it. Then years later I got Covid in the gym even though I was vaccinated for it. It was after the big mask enforcement, and they just told me to stay home for a few days after I tested positive for it, so I did. Then for about four years I never got sick at all. I rode my bike for huge miles and went to the gym for upper body and bone mass.

Then this year I got a nasty virus that ran its course, sore throat, upper respiratory tract infection, and felt better. But then, about a month later I got another virus in the gym, and I could not believe it. I just spent the last four nights coughing all night. I even went to the Urgent Care Center to get tested for Strep again, and it was negative. That means I am exposed to many germs in the gym, and it is impossible to protect myself from all of them. I need to reevaluate my plan.

There are certain times of the year when I will avoid the gym now. I will look for other ways to keep my muscles strong and bones thick. Maybe a home gym? I need to think about this.

Even this old fart has enough sense not to be in a gym with a bunch of people around with god knows what wrong with them.....Once a room gets much more than four people it it I'm gone......It's a risk I'm not willing to take anymore. Getting sick sucks as you age.

That said you may as well enjoy yourself if that's your thing because:

I have been going to gyms of various kinds for eons. LAFitness for a long time, and now Planet Fitness. Others before that. I never caught a thing, nor did my wife.

Planet Fitness has a "custom" of wiping down the equipment after use. They have spray bottles of who-knows-what that people apply to the exercise stuff with paper towels after they use it. This is utterly pointless and I aggressively ignore it at all times. The main benefit of this custom is it creates a ton of unsightly litter that overflows the trash cans.

Exercise stuff is not very expensive, especially when bought used. If I were this neurotic about germs I think I'd buy my own stuff.

Try eat after the gym then you solid. Or was that not the question be about?
