Perhaps Generalissimo trump's deployment of troops in DC isn't about getting the population accustomed to a military response inside the US, or an authoritarian impulse, or the desire to impose his will on cities that did not support him electorally. As he did in LA.

While crime is a concern for many residents, the situation on the ground differs from Mr. Trump’s hyperbolic statements in justifying the moves: Official data shows that crime is falling — particularly violent crime, which hit a 30-year low last year — after surging during the pandemic.
