This is the first year we did potatoes... and between the drought and our first endeavor mistakes we didn't get as many out of this bed as we would have liked...but there are two more beds to harvest.

Actually it's a sweet potato variety, but in the US we call them yams. A true yam is only grown in South Africa, IIRC.


Personally I love the orange ones, better flavor and sweeter than the white/yellow type of sweet potato

Good for you and your harvest isn't too bad. .I tried growing some this year, and got alot of vines but no tubers. My own fault since I didn't start them as slips but did the lazy way like irish spuds, just poked them in the ground. Good learning experience though.. Next year I might do it the right way and actually get something for my efforts.
