Mr. President, do you need to uphold the constitution?

Why was the question ridiculous? Trump had violated the 5th amendment when he ignored the constitution rights of those he deported. He has has waged a brazen and relentless assault on our constitutional structures of government in this term in office and his first term. His answer, that he doesn't know if he supports the constitution was certain a good reason to ask him directly.

This has been the case since 1996. Almost 30 years.

This takes us back to the questions you continue to avoid:
Obama deported people regardless if they were criminals or not - why can't Trump?
Obama did not need to put every deportee before a judge - why does Trump?
Obama deported people with nothing but a review by a DHS or ICE agent - why can't Trump?
Obama deported people w/o witnesses, attorneys, or appeals - why can't Trump?

Well?
There were 700 immigration judges who handled millions hearings and deportations before Trump took over.

Before Trump, expedited removals were restricted to those that showed up at the border without proper documentation and those caught within 20 miles of the border. Previous presidents stuck to these limits because they did not want to take a chance on deporting people that were legally in the country. Once you eliminate immigration hearings, the fate of the detainee lies with the arresting officer, bypassing the legal right of the accused to a fair hearing.

When Trump entered office in his first term, the 20 mile limit was changed to 100 miles. In his second term, all limits were remove, effectively eliminating due process for the detainees and thus the safeguard that protects US citizens and foreign nationals legally residing in the US from deportation.

The Expedited Removal law grants the president a wide latitude in regard to limits of use, thus presidents such as Obama have exceed those limits in special cases such as national security threats and cartel leaders.

What Trump has done is eliminate all limits effective abolishing the rights of the accused to fair hearing in all cases. This allow squads of government agents to grab anyone that isn't carrying proper documentation and see them deported with no opportunity to defend themselves.

the fifth amendment refers to citizens
No. The US Supreme Court and US Court of Appels have affirmed 5th amendment rights for all persons in United States in multiple cases, not just US Citizens.

Miranda vs. Arizona
United States vs. Kim
United States vs. Luna Encinas
United States vs. Romasko
United States vs Thomson

The founders made it quite clear that the 5th applied to all persons with the following statement in the amendment,
"No person shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."
