Don't harsh my zen, Jen!
What song had amazing *in your estimation* music, not just vocals?

I've always loved the sax, so this is one of my favorites.

Percussion is another biggie for me, so Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk" was IT for me.

I have quite a few, but most probably have never heard of them. Rush is one example of an incredible group of musicians, but I'm into progressive-type rock/metal. Go check out Dream Theater on youtube...i'd listen to these guys without vocals.

I named my daughter after this. On her 21st birthday, she was at a Great Southern concert and her friends got word to Dicky Betts that she was named for the song. Betts called her up on stage and faced her as he played it. She called me crying to thank me.

No, seriously! Bring your favorites here. I always like hearing what strongly affects someone else.

I can't believe I forgot my personal favorites. Major 'derp' moment, here.

At about 3:30 of the next one starts one of the best sequences of music I've ever heard.

Whoa! They are playing so fast, actual blurring is involved.

I know that voice! Or does he just sound familiar? The guy actually singing.

Indeed, but I like it fast. The singer is James LaBrie, but he's best known for his work with DT, they've been around for a long time so maybe you've heard them in passing at some point.

Don't let their speed throw you off, it's the ability to play complex arrangements at high speeds in unison that makes them so incredible...it's like jazz/metal.

It's just me? Nobody has a song where the musical instrument ability trumps the singing?

try this Sax solo by Jr. Walker playing on this recording with Foreigner....
