I picked-up a "refinished" Mod. 04 Winchester single shot today. The only thing they left the blue on was the correct front and rear sights and the trigger.....I might have it reblued. They did a good job on the stock.
It must have been made prior to 1927 due to the "extra long" stamping. I read where it was changed to LR in '27....None had serials.
Oddly enough the "extra long" cartridge was in fact longer than .22 LR but LR can be used in a E-L chamber the same as shorts or longs could.

Still and all I was glad to get it as it was the same rifle I was trained-on as a kid but I never found it after my granddad passed....I guess one of my cousins got it.
I gave $100.00 for it and it works just fine.
There was also a parts Model 1904 (older version of the same gun) included with the deal but it was missing the bolt/ extractor/ejector and the barrel was shot out.....That one (sans barrel) went on eBay as parts.
