Minimum Wage Increase: They Never Talks About the SALES

The evidence for the negative impact of the minimum wage is massive. Hundreds of examples. But the left hide themselves in an echo chamber, and pretend nothing outside their tiny little world exists.

It s the Final Nail to the Coffin Chinatown Businesses Struggle Over Oakland s New Minimum Wage NBC Bay Area

By the way, I had to point this one out. The minimum wage went from $9.25 to $12.50.

That's only about $6,000 a year that the employee would see in higher pay.

But.... Notice what the business man said. The cost of labor, would increase on the business by $10,000 per employee. We've been saying this over and over. The cost to employees is massively more than the flat wage.

You left-wing fruits have added on cost after cost, and then you wonder why business isn't hiring more, why more jobs are not created? Why is this business is closing, and laying off all it's employees who will now earn the real minimum wage of zero?

This is why. You idiots are the cause.

Ha, i'll bet anything none of those businesses cited, went under due to the Minimum Wage. Absolute Bullshite.
"Prove" it, Cupcake.

You lie. Any business that fails due to Minimum Wage, should fail. Wasn't meant to be. But that's not the workers' fault. That's all on the failed business owner.

That's fine if you really believe that, but understand that means a ton of low-skill labor will be unemployed.

McDonald's will move to automation, as they have been doing in other countries.... and the rest will be closed. The unemployment will sky rocket just like it did in 2008, and the economy will suffer.

It will solve the illegal immigration problem, so I'll grant you that.

(ever notice the double standard by these mindless leftists? They demand evidence. We give them evidence. They make a counter claim, and we demand evidence. Their response? "you lie"... That's 'evidence' in leftist world)
one thing you are wrong on Andi and Loki... is unemployment DID NOT IN ANY WAY, sky rocket in 2008 due to the minimum wage. hike.

Spot On. Unemployment and prices of goods go up and down. But the Minimum Wage has little to no impact on that. There is no evidence whatsoever showing raising the Minimum Wage significantly effects the economy.

We have more Millionaires & Billionaires in America today than we've ever had in our history. The economy can and will support raising the Minimum Wage. Period, end of story.

I haven't been been wrong about anything I've claimed. Yet you cannot be right about your actions until you validate your premises.

If I wish to accept wages below the level YOU deem proper, upon what moral authority do YOU declare it illegal for me to accept such wages? Upon what moral authority do YOU deny someone else my services? Upon what moral authority do YOU deny me that employment?

Upon what moral authority do YOU decide for OTHERS what their work (either offered or performed) is worth?

I'm sorry Loki, but you have been wrong on indicating that the minimum wage hike is what caused unemployment to go up in 2008/2009 and posting the graph of the economies unemployment rate with a chart showing the boom in unemployment and 'saying' this was due to the minimum wage hike....that is utterly ridiculous....can't you see that your premise on this is WRONG, WRONG and WRONG?

Small employers were given a 10 yr tax break, written in to the minimum wage hike bill, to cover the hikes in minimum wage for their employees....this does not expire until 2017...

And as far as the American Saloma and raising their minimum wage and killing their Tuna industry, you are correct....this island is not America and should have never been raised with our Minimum wage....

BUT GUESS WHAT? This was due to REPUBLICANS who INSISTED that they be included in the min wage hike as well...so it was the Republicans who made certain of killing the American Salmoa tuna industry as they pointed fingers at Pelosi of favoritism for NOT including them originally in the min wage hike bill...God bless those little suckers, NOT.

Legislative history
The act was a component of the new Democratic majority's 100-Hour Plan in the United States House of Representatives. It was introduced into the House on January 5, 2007, by George Miller (D-CA) and it was passed by the House on January 10. All 233 House Democrats voted "Aye," and 82 Republicans joined them. 116 Republican representatives voted "No," and 4 representatives did not vote. President Bush advised that the bill should include tax cuts for small businesses that could be harmed by the wage increase, and on January 24, 2007, a cloture motion in the Senate failed as 43 Republican Senators (all but 5) rejected the bill without the tax cuts, opposing all 47 Democrats who were present for the vote. Once tax cuts were added to the bill, the Senate passed the amended bill 94-3 (3 Republicans opposed and 1 did not vote; 2 Democrats did not vote) on February 1, 2007.

The act initially did not amend the Fair Labor Standards Act in regards to American Samoa—its minimum wage would have continued to be set by a committee appointed by the U.S. Department of Labor until changes were made to the act.[2][3] After accusations by Republican lawmakers that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was unethical because Del Monte (parent company of StarKist Tuna which owns one of the two tuna canneries in Samoa) is based in her district, she instructed a House committee to have Samoa be included. Samoa's representative Eni Faleomavaega noted that the territory has not been subject to the mainland minimum wage and said, "...the global tuna industry is so competitive that it is no longer possible for the federal government to demand mainland minimum wage rates for American Samoa without causing the collapse of our economy...".[4]

Final passage
The minimum wage was passed by the House and the Senate on May 24, 2007 as part of HR 2206, the supplemental aid to the Iraq War. As part of the deal, $257 million worth of tax breaks were given to small business over a 10-year period to offset the wage increase.[5] The bill was thus ultimately enacted as a rider to the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act, 2007. President George W. Bush signed the bill on the next day.[6]

The minimum wage increase did not change the tip credit for tipped employees. Originally, it was automatically increased by being pegged to a percentage of the regular minimum wage. However, that changed during the 1990s. The federal tip credit, therefore, remains at $2.13. However, as even tipped employees are subject to the higher of State or Federal wage by law tipped staff effectively benefit from the minimum wage increase just the same.[8][9]

See this is how flame wars start, right here. Because how am I supposed to respond intelligently, to the mindless incoherent babbling you just spewed on here?

Did you read your own post? Here is exactly what you said..........

1. You are wrong to say the minimum wage caused unemployment to go up.
2. The minimum wage did cause unemployment to go up in American Somoa.
3. But the Republicans voted for it.

You contradicted your own post, IN THE VERY POST. And then.... as if it makes the slightest difference... say it's the Republicans fault.

When you say stuff this moronic, it makes me think I'm trying to teach quantum physics to Forest Gump. What's the point? If you can't even make one post that doesn't clearly and directly contradict itself, why should any of us talk to you about ANYTHING? I wouldn't waste my time talking to you about the weather

Gumpette: "Clear and sunny other than the huricane that passed through, but the Republicans voted against Amtrak spending, so it's their fault".

Get a clue sister..... I don't care about Republicans. I'm not here to defend some group of politicians. I'd vote THEM ALL OUT. I'm against BAD ECONOMIC POLICY. I don't care who supports bad economic policy, I'm against the bad policy.

So we have shown clear unambiguous evidence of a direct correlation between the raising of the minimum wage, and the rise of unemployment. We have clear direct cause-effect evidence of the the minimum wage in American Somoa. We have evidence from people who actually run the businesses that the minimum wage affects, and it's related consequences.

You.... have nothing.... NOT A THING, other than a post which contradicts itself, and tries to shift blame.

Now if you want to remain ignorant and stupid, by all means. The rest of us who use information to make rational conclusions, are convinced. You ahve nothing. We have tons of evidence. You have hearsay, and contradictions. We have clear correlations.

Now if you want to add some PROOF of your claims instead of "I said it, therefore it is", by all means, show us your evidence, and we will examine it. But just saying "Your wrong, because you must be, because my political ideology says you must be", is not enough for thinking rational people. Sorry.

Oh yeah. Most of these big corporations are going to make billions off of raising the minimum wage, because it's the small mom&pop stores that don't have the capital to compete. The mom&pop shop doesn't have the money to pay for kiosks. McDonald's does.

So the mom&pop shop will have to jack up their prices, while McDonald does not. Customers go for the cheaper option, and McDonalds makes billions more, as the competition is weeded out.

Every time these leftwingers babbles about sticking it to the 'rich fat white people'... I find that hilliarious, because it's themselves who are sticking rich fat white people with their money. They are the ones who make the rich richer, and poor poorer.

Don't worry, the sky won't fall. Fat greedy old white Republican dudes will be wrong again. Just like all the other times they predicted end-times over raising Minimum Wage. The Slave Masters will bitch & moan about it for awhile, then they'll except it and move on. They'll be fine, and so will the economy.

But somehow i bet they'll be back predicting end-times when it's raised again. They seem to never tire of being wrong. It's their stubborn hate & greed.

First tell me what you base your comment that I was responding to on, show me the facts that the raise in the minimum wage caused unemployment to skyrocket in 2008 as you claimed.

Can you show that it was the minimum wage hike in July of 2008 that caused the unemployment in our country to skyrocket, or was it the the GREATEST Recession we have ever had in our History due to the Housing Bust/crash that began in 2007 and the Stock market/Wall street crash in mid to late 2008?

the reason the American Salmoa was brought up ...was because it was given as an example of a min wage hike that did cause an industry to fail....not here in the USA, but in a foreign country....and it was specifically due to Republicans FORCING them to raise the minimum wage in this foreign country that we control, to the level of what American's get paid in the USA.

(it was too much of a hike for this foreign country which relied on one single industry for the entire economy all at once with no tax help like the USA small businesses got )

As noted, small businesses in the USA were given a 10 year tax reprieve/subsidy to cover the minimum wage hike....

Think that those who are against higher minimum wage would be okay with getting paid minimum wage? I don't think congress deserves getting paid minimum wage. Founding fathers would start another revolution against congress wages.

the Federal minimum wage should be the minimum wage it takes for 1 person who works a full day, 5 days a week of giving his labor to the employer, to survive minimally....if prices have to go up to accommodate this minimum moral requirement in the few industries that overwhelmingly pay minimum wage, then so be it....prices may have to be higher in a very small sector of our industries to do such, so that the employers can make the profit they feel they need...

States can and do have the ability to make their minimum wages higher to accommodate for their higher costs of living in their own States....

That's 'evidence' in leftist world)
one thing you are wrong on Andi and Loki... is unemployment DID NOT IN ANY WAY, sky rocket in 2008 due to the minimum wage. hike.

Proposed amendments
Omissions
The minimum wage increase did not change the tip credit for tipped employees. Originally, it was automatically increased by being pegged to a percentage of the regular minimum wage. However, that changed during the 1990s. The federal tip credit, therefore, remains at $2.13. However, as even tipped employees are subject to the higher of State or Federal wage by law tipped staff effectively benefit from the minimum wage increase just the same.[8][9]

Ha, i'll bet anything none of those businesses cited, went under due to the Minimum Wage. Absolute Bullshite.

Yes, yes. We've been over just how minimum wage laws benefit the rich. The question is whether minimum wage laws benefit the poor.

Like i said, i seriously doubt you greedy fat white Republicans care whether or not it does. But once again, the sky won't fall. You guys will be proven wrong. But that won't stop you from screeching 'Sky is Falling' Bullshit the next time it's raised too. You would think you guys would be tired of being so wrong so often. It's bizarre.
