The Japanese didn’t invade French Indochina, the Vichy French turned it over to them.

And a great many refused to recognize that, as they refused to recognize anything done by the Vichy as they were a puppet government.

Or are you saying that there was not resistance an they just peacefully took over Vietnam?

Or that the Japanese themselves did not fight Vichy Forces? Like the Battle of Lang Son, then the constant guerrilla warfare they fought against the Viet Minh and remaining French forces. Which led to even further unrest and insurgency in early 1945 when the Japanese finally removed and imprisoned most of the French administrators running the country in their name and took direct command of the region.

Do I even need to mention that at that time, the US was actually giving assistance to the Viet Minh? That Uncle Ho actually had OSS advisors assisting him?

There was no preventive mewasure by the US to hold a plebiscite.

Notice the love of some people demanding "plebiscites" during an actual war. I have heard many of the same people demanding such after Iraq took over Kuwait, and several times in the past decade or so as Russia bites off bigger chunks of other nations. Suddenly demanding a plebiscite after they have already kicked off hostilities as a way to validate their hostile actions.

The very idea of a plebiscite after what was already a decade of invasion and assassinations is absurd. North Vietnam violated the treaty almost since day one. So why people expect anything else on it to be taken seriously, I have no idea. Of course, they also violated the next major treaty, where they recognized the Nation f South Vietnam, and promised to never again attack or invade it.

That in the end makes the Paris Peace Accords ultimately as worthless as the "Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation, and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation".
