The Japanese didn’t invade French Indochina, the Vichy French turned it over to them.
And a great many refused to recognize that, as they refused to recognize anything done by the Vichy as they were a puppet government.
Or are you saying that there was not resistance an they just peacefully took over Vietnam?
Or that the Japanese themselves did not fight Vichy Forces? Like the Battle of Lang Son, then the constant guerrilla warfare they fought against the Viet Minh and remaining French forces. Which led to even further unrest and insurgency in early 1945 when the Japanese finally removed and imprisoned most of the French administrators running the country in their name and took direct command of the region.
Do I even need to mention that at that time, the US was actually giving assistance to the Viet Minh? That Uncle Ho actually had OSS advisors assisting him?
